Chapter 8: The First World (8) [Part 2]

Ji Mo carried the things she bought and entered the alley through the faint light coming from outside.

Just as she walked into the alley, she felt a prying gaze from behind which was full of bad intentions.

Ji Mo thought of the location of the community. When you are on a higher floor and looking over, you can indeed see until the subway entrance. Coupled with a telescope, it will be more clear. That person should be there every day, observing her all along.

And seeing her coming back alone, he came down.

That man’s movements was very light, barely inaudible as he approached her from behind. Unfortunately for him, she had sensitive ears and with the quietness of the night, it was not difficult for her to discern his movements.

Just when the man was about to hit her with a stick, Ji Mo suddenly turned around. She looked at the man in a lost manner and immediately panicked. She quickly dropped the things in her hand and prepared to run away.

The man didn’t give her any chance to escape and grabbed her arm before pulling her to a dark place. It was a pity that he didn’t realize that Ji Mo was still holding onto one bag.

Seeing Ji Mo being scared to the point of becoming stupid and forgetting how to scream, the man curled his lips viciously. This woman tricked him last time, but he would make sure that she wouldn’t have the chance to run away this time.

He lifted up his hand and hit her head with the stick.

Ji Mo dodged quickly, letting the stick graze upon her shoulder. The feeling of being hit three times made her scream, almost scolding the man’s mother. When he saw that he failed to hit his target, he became a little angry. He grabbed her arms again and made a move to choke her neck.

‘In a panic’, Ji Mo took out the kitchen knife from the plastic bag and slashed it at the man’s back. A loud scream like a pig being slaughtered rang out.

The force behind the knife was so great that it made the man scream in pain. Ji Mo pushed him away using all her strength. The man slammed onto the ground, causing the knife behind him to sink deeper, and scream in pain again.

Ji Mo ran to the clinic, still in the state of shock. What greeted Granny Zhou and Ji Yun was the sight of her full of blood. With messy clothes, bloodstains on her hands and body, and a face devoid of any blood, with one shoe still missing on her feet due to the fast run she just did.

She ‘incoherently’ described what she encountered just now. Hearing what she said, Granny Zhou quickly called the police and the ambulance, then sent someone to see the situation inside the alley. Ji Yun was scared silly at the side, but still holding Ji Mo who lost consciousness, and fighting back the tears that were about to come out.

This time, Ji Mo indeed fainted. Combining the nervousness inside her, the injuries she suffered, and the run she did just now, she fainted after holding back for a long time.

The next day, Ji Mo found herself lying in a hospital. She looked at Chu Wei who was beside her the moment she opened her eyes. Looking at her, Chu Wei’s complexion was very bad.

“Dr. Chu.” Ji Mo called, feeling guilty for no reason. Fortunately, it was already over. The killer really didn’t think that she would be able to stab him while he was not paying attention. And the plan turned out to be successful.

“Dr. Chu, I seem to have stabbed someone.” Ji Mo added.

Only then did Chu Wei look at her: “The person didn’t die.”

“Will I go to jail or lose money?”

Seeing Ji Mo’s pale face and terrified look, Chu Wei comforted her: “You’re only defending yourself, and the injuries you got were no worse than him. You won’t go to jail nor lose your money, whether it’s from the actual scene or from the surveillance camera, the evidence is more than enough to prove your innocence.”

Surveillance camera?

Ji Mo was perplexed. Wasn’t the road not installed with any surveillance cameras?

“Someone near the alley said that the dried fish hanging outside their window was being stolen many times, so a surveillance camera was installed.”

Just because of dried fish, a surveillance camera was installed? And it was also facing the alley?

“Didn’t I tell you before not to go home if you are alone? If you have to go back because of an emergency, you can give me a call and I can ask my friend to send you.” Chu Wei’s voice suddenly softened and there was an unknown pain inside her eyes. Ji Mo was at a loss for words.

“It won’t happen again in the future. Dr. Chu, don’t be angry.” What else can you do when facing such people? Naturally, it was to coax them.

“I’ll get you something to eat.” Chu Wei turned around and left the hospital room. But Ji Mo heard the sentence she whispered the moment she turned around. ‘The cut was well done’, she said it with a low and satisfied tone.

“444, it looks like Chu Wei’s mental state is very bad. Do you think she will use this chance to make a move on the killer while he is still in the hospital?” Ji Mo asked anxiously.

[You guessed it right. You need to pay more attention to her and be ready to stop her anytime.]

“Right, who’s the killer? I’ll just ask later.” Ji Mo looked at Chu Wei’s location through her mind and thought of how she couldn’t have a good night’s sleep watching Chu Wei day and night.
