Last Man On Earth When There Is No Earth ?

" ugh…just what in the world happened here "

" who knows , there are no signs of struggle so…they starved to death? " said Lilia a she lead the way .

We were inside the ruins , in the room where we first met to be exact . it's a good place to be in if you are into skeletons .

Lilia used one of her sci-fi looking tools to get a reading on the bones scattered around . there are nine sets of them , the same as the broken glass pods , minus the one I was in .

"it says four of them have a similar built to the humans of modern day , but the rest… are different in some ways " Lilia showed me a hologram with what I assume are the readings from the dead bodies . I have to learn that alien language at some point .

"so ,five males and four females " I murmured to myself

Ten humans including me were stored inside this place , maybe even more .human experimentations? Why not on earth?why not on a more civilized planet? I'm sure that would cost less than a business trip a few galaxies away .

"Dead humans huh … "

a scene from my dreams flashes in front of me . a girl getting eaten by a lizard-man alien thing , the delight I felt as she screamed asking for help ,that made me question my own humanity.

The same can be said about those corpses. Should I feel sad or something right now? the only thing I feel is the same as when I played dark souls back when I was ten.

"this is the only room with the bones right ?"

"this is the last one I went into , so yeah" said my blond companion "the others were empty except for the furniture "

"hmm…. "I cross my arms and close my eyes .

I thought they evacuated this place in a hurry before , but would they just leave us behind like that? Lilia said that human males don't exist anymore , so six of them would be considered big catch right? They went through the trouble to preserve us for this long too .

"eh!!? You don't remember anything!!"

Lilia's reaction when I told her about my lost memory was …surprise to say the least . her eyes went wide as she covered her open mouth with both her hands.

" well, there are things that I remember but" I scratch the back of my head " most what I can recall doesn't help much "

" you don't remember your name ?"

"no"

"and where you are from?"

"not a clue "

"any people you were close to ? your family or a friend or…"

"no one comes to mind "

" what do you remember then?"

"hmm…" I look up to the sky and think for a moment

" I remember that it was a really bad day , and that I almost got killed , I can recognize y face too"

" is that it?"

"yes..."

Lilia went quite , looking at the ground with clear depression .

"sorry …" her voice was so faint , almost unnoticeable

" what are you apologizing for ?"

"you were going through such a hardship , and I didn't even notice …"

Please , just stop . that sympathy filled look .I can tell how pathetic I am without you reminding me

" I wasn't hiding it , because I didn't care much in the first place , there s no way anyone would notice it "

Silence made it's presence from there on .sitting here with a depressed ,but still beautiful Lilia is the pinnacle of awkwardness . added to that the fact that I look like a cave man with the long hair and beard .

"…Lilia…" this is the first time I called her by her name , I hope I'm not blushing right now "you don't have to worry about it , I will probably remember everything as time goes on . but honestly ,I don't think there is anything worth remembering , that's why I'm so relaxed about it "

" what are you saying? does that mean you are okay with not knowing anything about yourself?"

"well …not exactly . "

I'm on a planet millions of light years away from earth talking to an alien. My family , classmates , acquaintances , my city ,neighbor ,home and room . they are most likely gone .

I kind of still want my games back but aside from that I have no real, strong attachment to my old life.

If I have to choose , being here with Lilia is many times better than spending all day in my room doing nothing as the days pass by .

" I think I'm fine with how things are now"

Lilia hugged her knees as she thought about something . her care is a waste on someone like me , someone she met a few hours ago. Was she always like this ? or is it just because I'm the only person around ? does loneliness somehow make people kinder ?

No , Lilia is a good person ,that's why . it's just there , no need for high communication skills to see it .

" as for what to call me …let's wait for sometime before deciding , we won't need it here anyway with just the two of us around "

I was suddenly brought back to reality . it seems I spaced out for a moment , and Lilia got worried when I didn't respond to her call

" are you okay? " she said . this is the closest we have ever been , she is still holding my arm after shaking me awake

"yeah , I'm fine no need to worry "

" but you don't look fine , you didn't respond when I called you multiple times "

"Lilia …sorry but, can I have one of those energy bars from before?"the rumbling sound coming from my stomach echoed through the room .

I has been little past three hours since we left the camp, and even though I ate my fill I suddenly feel like eating something.

"you should have said something back then , I wouldn't have minded it" she said as she searched inside her bag

" no. I was fine until just now, don't know where it came from"

"anyway , you shouldn't worry too much about food , you probably burn more energy units than I do " Lilia handed me the two wrappings "don't hold back , they are really easy to make"

Lilia had a daily routine ever since she got trapped on this planet. she would wake up at sunrise , go to the nearby source to get clean water ,then gather some fruits .when she is done eating breakfast she would go around exploring .

two days ago she found the entrance to the ruins by accident.

According to her this place is strange in many ways. although clearly abandoned the place still had a functioning barrier that, much like the one at the camp, keeps the animals and beasts from getting close . the illumination wasn't in the best condition but still available . then there is me .

Yeah ,I continue to be a disappointment even for people I just met.

" doesn't seem like there is anything of any use around here , should we go to the next room?" asking that ,I take a bite of the bitter energy bar .

Lilia walks toward the pod that's still in a good shape unlike the rest, the same pod I was in

" actually , there is something here that made me curious " leaning forward she looks for something before pointing at the bottom of the glass " there "

The thing she pointed out was a rusty metallic plate. The rest of the pods had their own, with the same letters engraved into them each with a different number

"O.H.S 007?" what the!?

What are Latin alphabets doing in this place?

"you know how to read this ?" said Lilia in surprise , apparently her sci-fi device couldn't recognize the language

" well ,can't say I understand it though ,they are just three letters and a number, probably a brand "

" is that so… but that's a good thing right ?if you can read it then we may learn something from here " positive thinking , at least one of us saw the bright side of this .

I on the other hand only thought of how rather than aliens, it was humans who experimented on me and the rest then left us here to die, just like that.

"let's go to the next room ,I have a bad feeling about this "
