Chapter 13:CHAPTER 13: 16th BIRTHDAY

SHAYLA

It got me surprise when a text from Zander that night. It was confusing at first for him to spare his time texting me or texting each other. I am not his level kind of friend to beginning with I am two years younger.

I do not know why but I love it, the new Zander. I know I do not have close friend in school with a boy only my brother but I cannot open all to him. We are close because we grow up together and friends with each other's families but sharing each other's thoughts was different.

No one knows we were texting even with Macy. I never told her about us because it will give her false information and I do not want to compromise our newfound friendship.

It goes on even the school started, we texted each other's day every day. We smiled at school but never got the chance to be close and talk personality. We seem like text mates imagining that we never knew each other.

He even told me his whereabouts I even saw him with other girls in school but I may slightly hurt seeing him. I know it is not right for me to feel jealousy because he is just a friend. I know him just treating me a friend and I should have contented with that.

I came down and saw my parents in the living room with Shane. They were smiling at me as I approached to them.

"Why are you all smiling at me like that?" I asked with a scary expression.

Shane walked towards me and he put an arm over my shoulder. "Mom and Dad arranged something on your birthday."

"What! Wa-wait!" I raised my both hands on air. "You know I do not like party and I do not have a lot of friends. I do not want it." I said.

"Darling, I know, we know. It is not a big party like you imagine. I know you do not like that kind of party in mind but we just want you to celebrate it nicely and memorable. Just a few friends of yours then us," My mother said with her sweet smile.

"Sis, we were going to the beach house and celebrate there since it falls on weekend." Shane said excitedly.

I shook my head but thinking I somewhat likes the idea. We never get the chance to spend more time as a family because of my parents' occupations. Shane was busy with his life as senior and other things. I also think that I only be sweet sixteen once.

"Okay, fine, let's do my birthday there and be with our friends as well."

My dad stood up and kissed my forehead. "That's my baby girl." He said. "I know we are not always at home and spend the two of you but we just want you to enjoy of being sixteen even you do not like party."

"That is why we took a leave on your birthday and spend it together," my mom added.
