37. Your Opponent

Translator: Guy Gone Bad

The documents related to Lei Wu’s past proved that he was a law-abiding citizen although there was a time when he had been idle and done no decent work.

The reason Lei Wu committed murder was because those ruffians imprisoned his wife. They were bad guys and had committed several robberies and murders.

Soon after, the court recalled the murder charge against Lei Wu and reduced the charge to excessive self-defence and accidental homicide.

Although every week Lei Wu had to go back to the prison to receive patriotic education and then volunteer at a traffic light, he was free most of the time.

“Haha, six years passed, and I finally came out of that damn place. The air outside is fresh!”

This was the first sentence Lei Wu said after getting out of the prison, which was exactly the same as he had said in the previous life.

The difference was that Lei Wu’s freedom came ten years earlier and Ling Fan was not threatened by death now.

“Ling Fan,” Lei Wu suddenly looked at Ling Fan seriously.

“Although I don’t know why you helped me, I am extremely obliged to you because you got me out of the prison. I’m an uncultured person, but I know that we should be grateful to all those who help us. From now on, I’m your most faithful follower. I’ll not hesitate to do as you ask. I will die in my boots if I betray you.”

Hearing his words, Ling Fan smiled.

He patted Lei Wu hard on the shoulder.

“We are friends from now on.”

“Yeah!”

“Let’s go.”

……

They got into a taxi. Seeing that Lei Wu fidgeted in his seat, Ling Fan raised a questioning eyebrow and asked, “What’s wrong?”

“Boss… Where is my son?” asked Lei Wu.

“Don’t worry. I’ve collected your son from the welfare house and sent him to a kindergarten.”

“Oh, thank you, Boss. Are we going to see my son?” Lei Wu seemed very excited.

“Your son is still in class. Let’s pick him up at 5:00 p.m. But now we have to go to a place first.”

“Okay.” Lei Wu obeyed Ling Fan without question although he was eager to see his son.

……

“Haha, Boss, I didn’t expect you to know this place. What a coincidence! I played boxing matches in this fighting coliseum before I was sent to jail. Haha, it must be fate.” Lei Wu was surprised that Ling Fan took him to Mr. Leopard’s underground fighting coliseum.

‘If it hadn’t been for you, I wouldn’t have known this place,’ Ling Fan thought.

“Come on, let’s go visit Mr. Leopard and thank him for his help.”

Before they could get in, Mr. Leopard heard their voices and came out.

“Oh boy! You are so amazing! I can’t believe you really got him out of the prison. Let’s be good friends. I hope you can help me out if one day I get sent to prison.”

“Haha, stop being facetious, Mr. Leopard. Prison is not a good place. You would certainly be targeted if you were put in jail. Do you know why? Because you look fierce,” said Lei Wu.

“F*ck! You haven’t broken the habit of rubbing people up the wrong way. Come on, let me show you around.”

“Obviously, this fighting coliseum has been refurbished, but it’s basically the same as it was six years ago.” Lei Wu gazed at the fighting ring, and he was taken back to nostalgia.

“Are you nostalgic for the days when you did amateur boxing here?”

“Yep. I have an itch to play a match.”

“Sign a contract, and you can play a match at once.”

“Really?”

“I always keep to my words.”

“Great! Please give me a contract.”

“No problem. But let me remind you… Your opponent will be Ling Fan if you insist on playing a match right away.”
