Chapter 11

“I’m sorry about that.” Daisy smiled and glanced at Carlyx.

“But I have an obligation to know you.”

“It’s fine otherwise.”

“Wouldn’t I be humiliated at social gatherings once they find out I know nothing about my husband’s tastes?”

After a while, she would enter high society. They would basically talk about each other’s husband, so what would happen if she didn’t know anything about him?

“Would they believe me if I said, ‘He thinks everything is not bad’?”

The nobles wouldn’t believe that easily. Rather than not being able to play the role of a madam, the rumor that they weren’t on good terms would spread.

“I called him because you weren’t going to tell me anyway.”

There was nothing wrong with what Daisy said. Carlyx, whose head was drawn back, looked down at her. He could feel the oozing charisma from her tiny body.

“I’ll talk to you later. Come here after you finish your duty.”

“See you later. I’m here for your wife, not you. If you’re jealous, finish the training early and come on in.”

Logan, who patted Carlyx’s shoulder once, spoke while walking backwards. Logan gave Carlyx a wink playfully even when Carlyx stared at him with fierce eyes.

“Everyone seems to have loosened up at today’s training.”

After Daisy and Logan left, Carlyx coolly thrust the sword on the ground.

“You took a break already, so train a little faster.”

The knights immediately grabbed the sword with both hands. I can barely keep up… Do I need to go even faster? They thought.

When they slowed down, Carlyx raised his voice as if to tell them to get on their senses.

“Answer!”

“Yes, sir!”

The knights regretted not doing it slower from the start, but it was too late as the hellish training had already commenced.

Logan, who was sitting in front of Daisy, smiled like a mischievous boy.

‘You’ve only seen him once at a social party before, right?’

Daisy. She tends to shy away from the spotlight, but she didn’t lose fame because of her glamorous appearance.

‘A lot of people didn’t consider her as a potential bride because they thought she couldn’t handle her position.’

Most noblemen would have had a similar idea. They found Daisy attractive but lacking in capability because of her low self-esteem.

‘There’s a rumor that she’s been paying attention to Carlyx.’

Logan believed that as well. Daisy’s gaze at the party was always on Carlyx.

‘Did I see it wrong? Her atmosphere and eyes definitely changed.’

In any case, Logan didn’t hate Daisy like Carlyx did. Most people would be intimidated by Carlyx, but she didn’t and even sent a letter to him. Thus, he admired her.

“You called me without telling Carlyx? I wonder what kind of secret you want to share with me.”

Logan shrugged his shoulders and rubbed his hands.

“Tell me. I’m ready.”

“It’s not a secret.”

“Then what is it? Come on, you just don’t want to tell me, do you?”

“Yes. I just don’t want to tell you.”

Logan chuckled at Daisy’s brazenness.

“Wow, such an unyielding spirit. I like that.”

“Same here. I also like Sir Logan’s frankness.”

“I like being complimented. Since I like compliments, please keep going. Don’t feel pressured.”

Logan rubbed his nose. He then leaned back and placed his arms at the back of his head.

“If you answer my question, I will tell you anything.”

Daisy overturned the silverware on the table with a graceful gesture. She took out sugar cubes and put them in the cup with a regretful expression.

“I should have treated you better. I apologize for the lack of service.”

Originally, butlers or servants would attend to them. Depending on the situation, hot coffee had to be poured and sugar cubes had to be added. But she couldn’t risk having their conversation leaked out.

Daisy recited Logan’s profile inwardly.

‘Logan Rivai. A count and the vice-commander. He and Carlyx were the only high-class nobles among the Knights of Zisanter.’

As far as I know, he was the only friend of Carlyx. Carlyx, who might consider him as a colleague rather than a friend, kept him by his side. That fact was very important.

“Carlyx doesn’t talk much about himself. So I called Sir Logan here to see if I could hear an answer.”

Logan must know that there was no affection between them. There was no reason not to be upfront about it. Of course, she also had prepared some words to coax him.

“…You two have a very special relationship, right?”

“That’s right! That guy doesn’t talk about himself, does he? It’s not like he gets paid if he zips his mouth like that. Such an irritating man.”

Just as she thought, Logan took the bait and got aggravated.

“I feel you. I was told to do whatever I want, but I can’t just do that, can I?”

She hid what she could hide and revealed some facts. Since it was better to earn his trust.

“I’m interested in Carlyx.”

“Ah, interest? Is it affection?”

“No, not to the point of having affection.”

Logan clapped his hands lightly and nodded at Daisy’s answer.

“If it’s not such an affectionate relationship, then what is it? Seeing his expressionless face, perhaps, is it unrequited love?”

Logan asked with a big smile. It seemed like he didn’t see it wrong before. They got married first and then got comfortable with each other…

‘As expected! She has feelings for Carlyx!’

He clearly misunderstood.

Daisy could see through Logan’s mind, but she didn’t bother to correct it.

“Only my side is interested.”

“Okay. Unrequited love. I only played as a matchmaker once in my life, but I’ll gladly do it. Ask me, I’ll answer everything.”

Logan was so thrilled inside. He thought that guy would become an old geezer growing plants in his own garden alone, but it seemed like he has found his companion.

“What is Carlyx’s favorite food?”

“F-Food…Well, this is hard. There’s nothing he likes or dislikes.”

Daisy was screwed. She couldn’t dig out anything from Logan either. At that time, Logan clapped more cheerfully than before. Then, he opened his eyes wide as if he had found gold coins.

“That guy likes classy wine.”

“But that’s not food.”

“Food is too much. I can’t think of anything. As you know, he’s always closed his mouth. Especially if it’s about himself.”

She knew that very well. He would always say ‘Yes, it’s pretty good’ or ‘No, it’s not bad’. And he would say it over and over again. But it was meaningful because I was able to get something out of it.

“Thank you. I’ll ask you again later if I have any questions. Because you promised you’d help.”

“Of course. I’m good at matchmaking. Trust me and follow me. I’ll make your love last for a thousand years.”

I don’t think I can live for thousands of years. It didn’t make sense at all, but I am already so tired. Daisy thought to herself.

“It’s impossible.”

“No worries. I will make it happen.”

Logan comforted Daisy in a friendly way. Daisy, who didn’t care much about the misunderstanding, stretched out her dainty hand.

“I look forward to your cooperation.”

“Then we’ll be allies from now on.”

“An ally is a bit too much.”

“Hey, don’t feel pressured.”

When he clasped Daisy’s hand and shook it, Daisy thought.

‘It’s burdensome, but I don’t want to correct it.’

***

Logan had already disappeared while Carlyx was looking for Daisy and Logan. Only Daisy sat alone on the sofa as if she was waiting for him.

“Have you come?”

“What did you talk about with Logan?”

“It’s frustrating.”

Carlyx’s eyes turned cold at her irrelevant answer, but he stayed silent. Because he knew she was leading the conversation.

“Let’s take a walk and talk.”

This time again, Carlyx obediently followed Daisy for a walk.

“Do you like wine?”

“Wine is not bad.”

Daisy smiled half-heartedly at his meaningless answer.

“I like it, I hate it. Among these two answers, which one is it?”

If I said it this way, he must’ve understood, right?

She slowed down her pace and waited for his answer. The gentle wind shook the ribbon on her hat. Elegant blonde hair fluttered as if dancing. Carlyx, who thoughtlessly stared at Daisy, spoke.

“…I honestly don’t know.”

His answer was filled with worries. Carlyx went a step further without stopping. Then, his pace slowed down, and he stood in one place. Afterwards, Carlyx turned his back, avoiding Daisy’s persistent gaze.

“I’ve never really thought of it. So stop-”

“Then we can start now. Let’s evaluate the food every time we eat. How was today’s beef, how was today’s lamb, and among others.”

Daisy came up with a firm solution. That was how she caught Carlyx. He was trying to escape, but he couldn’t do it anymore. Now that she was right in front of him, it was impossible to escape.

“For your information, I’m not the only one who should learn.”

Daisy, who stepped forward, spoke confidently.

“I like beer.”

Every step she took, she spat out a word. Her soft voice and clear pronunciation rang calmly as if telling her opponent to never forget it.

“I like lamb with garlic. I prefer pork to chicken and beef to pork. I prefer spices and sauces to plain ones.”

Those were luxurious foods that were only eaten by aristocrats. Although she wasn’t sure that the chef in the mansion could make it splendidly.

“Keep that in mind.”

But it didn’t matter because what concerned her the most was the guy in front of her.

“You should know your wife well so you don’t embarrass yourself.”

This wasn’t the end of the talk. Daisy smiled and shook the dust off Carlyx’s shoulder.

“And I’ve been waiting a long time.”

To be honest, I thought Carlyx might shrug off my hand, but he didn’t. The anxiety that engulfed me for a while faded away.

‘It’s okay. He’s someone who sticks to his role as a husband.’

“When will you let me see them?”
