His Genius Wife is a Superstar

1354 Old, Dying Commercial District

Jin Liwei had to break up his AI children's childish argument. Fortunately, Ketchup and Bacon were too excited to show their surprise for their mother later so they didn't continue quarreling with each other.

The curious Iris tried to wheedle out some clues about the surprise from her AI children and her husband but they refused to tell anything. While their helicopter flew over the city's tall skyscrapers, Iris fell asleep.

Jin Liwei's eyes softened. He carefully shifted his wife's head into a more comfortable position on his shoulder. His heart ached for his wife.

Although they had a team of nannies to care for their babies, both of them still chose to be hands-on in raising their children without completely depending on their staff. This meant rearranging their schedules to fit quality family time with work.

For a man like Jin Liwei, this was nothing. He had experienced more hectic schedules in the past especially after his father's death which forced him to work beyond his physical limitations in order to stabilize his position as the head of Jin Corporation as fast as possible. He was only in his thirties now—still young and healthy. He could bear demanding schedules like this without too much of a problem.

His wife, however, was a different matter. Iris had a history of falling into coma and fainting. It wasn't because she was an unhealthy person. Normally, she was a very healthy and fit individual.

The two of them could only conclude that her past coma and fainting episodes might be a side effect of being reborn into a different body. After all, no matter how compatible Evelina's soul and Iris' body could be, they still weren't a 100% match. There must still be some sort of rejection between the soul and body no matter how well they melded in time.

The previous medical tests done on Iris couldn't find anything seriously wrong with her. The doctors could only conclude that her current fragile health was a sequela from the car crash which sent her on a one-year coma.

Iris and Jin Liwei couldn't possibly tell the doctors the truth about her rebirth to help them study another cause for her frequent coma and fainting episodes. Therefore, they could only make the conclusion by themselves and try to be as careful as possible in taking care of her health.

Jin Liwei felt more protective of his wife now that she had given birth to his human children. Just remembering how much she had suffered during childbirth and watching how she often sacrificed regular sleep to personally breastfeed their twins even in the middle of the night had made him love her even more than before.

He knew that as a woman, his wife was experiencing more pressure and difficulty in trying to balance their family time and her work life than him. Hence, he swore that he would continue to do everything in his power to support her no matter what, so that she didn't need to sacrifice her own dreams for their family.

What was the use of being THE Jin Liwei if he couldn't even give his own wife the ideal life where she could have it all?

Smiling, he kissed the sleeping Iris' forehead. "Rest, baby. We'll be there soon."

He was right. The helicopter ride didn't last that long. They landed in what looked like an old, abandoned commercial district.

Iris woke up shortly after. She must have sensed the unfamiliar environment so she wasn't able to sleep as deeply like usual. [Read official chapters on W e b n o v e l (dot) com. Please stop supporting piracy. Also follow author on Instagram: @arriacross]

"Where are we?" she asked while looking around.

Jin Liwei helped her out of the helicopter. Some of their bodyguards had already arrived in advance by car and waited for them. The appearance of their entourage looked incredibly out of place in this deserted place.

"Hm?" Iris turned her head around and squinted her eyes.

She saw a small rickety truck driving in the distance. When she looked more carefully, she realized that this place wasn't completely as deserted as she initially thought. There were a few people staying in this area but most of them were old people.

Jin Liwei held her hand and led her through a parking lot. The cement on the ground was chipping and the parking lines had long faded.

"This is an old commercial district that is currently on its last dying breath," Jin Liwei told her. "Businesses and young people had left one after another throughout the years and moved to other new commercial city districts where there are better opportunities. The only ones left here are the elderly. As it stands now, this place is unable to sustain itself. Sooner or later, it will become completely abandoned if nothing is done."

They walked until they reached an abandoned mall. It was small compared to the large malls found in major cities. However, the construction looked solid despite having some of the walls vandalized by a few juvenile graffiti. The mall had a retro feel to it and looked a bit tacky but the overall building design was not bad at all.

Iris glanced around the area surrounding the mall. The size of the parking lot was quite large especially when compared to the tight open spaces in the cities. There was also a residential area not far from the mall. The roads were in bad condition but had decent distance to the surrounding buildings.

Just through this quick observation, she could already see a lot of possibilities.

"It'll be a shame if this place dies and becomes completely abandoned," she said.

"En," Jin Liwei agreed.

"By the way, why did you bring me in a place like this?" Iris asked.

"Mother, this is Bacon's surprise," her cat AI son told her through her hidden earpiece.

"Ketchup's surprise to mommy, too! Don't forget, Bacon! You little meanie! Meow~"

"This is the surprise?" Iris raised an eyebrow and looked at her husband.

Jin Liwei smiled but didn't say anything. He allowed their AI children to explain. If he took over in presenting the surprise to his wife, Bacon might resent him and think that he was hogging all the credit by himself. Then the little rascal would demand compensation for emotional distress again.

"Yes, Mother. Bacon bought this mall for you. Do you like it?"

Iris blinked a few times and looked at the old, tacky, abandoned mall again.
