Harry Potter's Catastrophe

Chapter 4: The wand chooses the wizard?

Two days later in the morning, Professor McGonagall led Carney to the Broken Ax Bar. The Broken Ax Bar was located between a bookstore and a record store. They had visited this street before, and even went to the bookstore to buy books, but they had never discovered that there was a shabby little bar next to it.

Pedestrians passing by seemed unable to see the bar, as if it didn't exist.

"This place is protected by a spell, and Muggles cannot find a place to see it." Professor McGonagall explained that she already understood the meaning of the word Muggle during the chat the night before.

Opening the door, I couldn't praise the environment here. There weren't many people inside. It was probably still morning. Following Professor McGonagall to the bar, the professor greeted the bar owner.

"Good morning, Mr. Tom!"

"Good morning! There are so many students this year." The bar owner replied, wiping his wine glass.

Then he walked through the bar and came to a small patio surrounded by walls. There was only a trash can leaning against the wall.

"Mr. Stern, you need to remember next, three pieces up and two pieces across."

She tapped her wand three times on the wall at the exact spot she just mentioned.

The brick at the struck location shook and began to move, and slowly a passage opened up in the middle.

Before leaving the passage, I heard the bustle of various voices.

"Is this Diagon Alley? Where are we going now?" Carney looked around with wide eyes. It was the school season in Diagon Alley and people were coming and going on the streets.

"Go to Gringotts first and exchange Muggle currency for wizard currency."

"Where is Gringotts?"

"We're already here and it's the largest building here."

Gringotts is a snow-white building that stands high above the surrounding buildings. There are four thick, well, slanted pillars on the outside.

The fairies inside also have distinctive looks and personalities. He is not tall, shorter than Carney, with pointed ears and a long nose.

After changing enough gold galleons, the two separated. Professor McGonagall went to the front to buy books and a crucible, while Carney went to buy uniforms and wands, and first came to Madam Malkin's Robe Shop.

"Are you here to buy Hogwarts uniforms? This is the best!" A fat witch walked up, probably Mrs. Malkin.

"Yes, are there any ready-made ones? I mean first-year students. If there are, just take the ready-made ones," Carney said. Of course it is best to have a ready-made one. It also saves the step of measuring the size. It doesn’t matter whether it is long or short, as long as it can be worn.

"Oh, of course, but it may not fit so well." Mrs. Malkin dug out several sets of wizard robes, all of different sizes.

"That's all. Can you wrap it up?"

"certainly."

…………

Carrying the bag, I left the robe shop and followed Professor McGonagall's instructions and arrived at Ollivander's.

When I pushed the door open and walked in, I saw an old man writing something with a quill on the front desk. I heard the door open and looked over.

"Hello, I'm here to buy a wand."

"Oh, a new student at Hogwarts." The old man left the front desk, walked over and stared at Carney, "So you are?"

"My name is Carney Strand."

"So Mr. Stern, which hand do you prefer to use?" The old man took out a treasure from his pocket, well, it was just a tape measure.

"Right hand."

"Extend your arm so I can measure you."

From shoulders to fingertips, from wrists to elbows, then from shoulders to floor, knees to armpits, and finally head circumference. He measured it and said: "Every Ollivander's wand contains super powerful magical substances, and this is its essence, Mr. Strang. We use unicorn hair, phoenix tail feathers and dragon's Nervous. Every Ollivander wand is unique, as no two unicorns, dragons, or phoenixes are alike, and that's never the case if you use a wand that belongs to another wizard. Good results.”

"Okay, let's take a look..." After measuring, he flipped through the shelves, "Try this one. Made of hawthorn wood and unicorn hair. It's eight inches long and has good elasticity."

The wand has a handle. Carney doesn't like this style because he feels that the whole wand feels downgraded if it has a handle. When you hold the wand in your hand, you just feel, just feel, just feel nothing. Didn't feel it.

"Swing." The old man said to him.

Carney swung at the wall, afraid he would hit something. But nothing happened.

"No, no, no." The old man took the one back and pulled out another one, "Made of ebony and phoenix tail feathers. Seven inches, very elastic."

Carney took this one and looked at it carefully. Well, this one has no handle and is smooth overall. There is not much difference in weight between the beginning and the end. The grain of the wood is also very suitable for my taste. It is very elastic. It should be no problem to spin it. It doesn't feel much like holding it in your hand, but it's definitely more comfortable than one with a handle.

Thinking that I need to give some reaction this time, I looked at the stool on the side to see if I could make it float, and waved my magic wand.

The stool really slowly floated up, following the direction of the wand.

"Yes, that's it. It's really weird." The old man frowned. He had a clear view of Carney's expression just now. He took back the wand and looked at it carefully. He found nothing, but when he wanted to put the magic power into it , cast magic, but nothing happened. "Weird, really weird. Try this again, made of Dong Qingmu and Phoenix tail feathers, eleven and a half inches long." He took out another wand.

It's also a handle, so even if I wave it around, it will have no effect.

"I think it's the one just now!" Carney said as he turned around and turned over again.

"Try another one. This one, made of yew and dragon sinew. Nine and a half inches long."

This one didn't have a handle, and he couldn't feel it when he started it, but he felt that this one was a bit thick, not as thin as the previous one. He waved at the stool, but got no response.

At this time, Professor McGonagall finished shopping and found Carney at Ollivander's. "Good morning, Mr. Ollivander, have you chosen your wand?"

"You've chosen, this is it." Carney took back the one that successfully used magic before.

"Okay, seven gold galleons." Ollivander said helplessly, and he was going to try a few more.

He looked at Carney's fading figure and paused, not knowing what he was thinking...
