For You

25 Ranking Battles 3

Sam was mediocre at dancing, but being average was not good enough. They trained him with mind boggling methods. They made him hit moves sharply without consciously thinking about it, and stretched his body to it's limits.

He wasn't even on the third day of training.

The guys taught him how to freestyle dance without pausing and a couple of cool moves. They also taught him how to breakdance. Sam's back hurt. A lot.

He tapped his feet to the beat in his head. It was an orginal song that he was planning to use in the finals of the tournament if he ever made it.

It was a slow, sad and reverential song about all of his past crushes.

"My heart beat fast when I walked past you

You never noticed

You never cared

I wish I had told you

But I couldn't dare

But now it's over, now it's too late

Too late for me to tell you

Of our lost fate

You've fallen so deeply for someone else

Some one that I wish I could have been.

You pull him closer,

'Come sit here'

I'm on the sidelines

You whisper in her ear

She giggles quietly

I turn away

There is something I wish I could say

I could say that there would have never been a chance

But I should have made one

I just didn't have the courage

Because with every glance..."

Sam tapped his fingers on the table as he tried to think of the rest of the lyrics. After thinking for a couple of moments, the lightbulb in his head lit up and he wrote the lyrics down on a napkin. Sam read over the lyrics and decided to fine tune it later after the dance practice.

Sam quickly finished eating and disposed of his dishes and trays before heading back to the dorms to rest and do homework.

"What have you been doing that makes you looked so tired?" Ryan asked as Sam dragged himself to his bed.

"I've been having dance practice with the high rankers."

"Oh? What have you been learning?"

"A couple hip hop and jazz routines and some breakdancing moves."

"Breakdancing? Believe it or not, but I can breakdance. I used to do underground battles," said Donovan as he looked up from his math textbook.

"Do you want me to give you some tips?"

"Sure, how do you balance better when doing flares?"

"You have to spread your legs more and keep them as straight as possible."

"Thanks, I'll keep that in mind tomorrow."

Eric diverted his attention from his book. "Yes, the longer your legs are, the more momentum you will have."

"Thanks guys. I'm gonna hit the sack. Night."

"Good night."

"Night Sam."

Then Sam laid down in his bed. Before his head even hit the pillow, he was asleep.

"Man, I feel sorry for him..." Ryan murmured.

"MORE MOMENTUM! Come on Sam!" Ajax yelled as Sam spun around the floor.

"ARE THESE WINDMILLS OR ARE YOU JUST READJUSTING YOUR LEGS!"

"Legs straight, hips high!" shouted Jace from the sidelines.

"Don't forget the placement of your feet, Sam! I know it's only been five days, but we're running out of time! Only two more days! Start over!"

Sam sighed and turned around to face the back. Marianne and the others gave him a thumbs up as encouragement.

"Work on the stability of your flares! Keep your feet off the ground!" Ajax shouted.

Sam slowed his momentum and got into standing position before starting over again.

"Yes! Better!"

Sam whirled around on the floor, spinning on his hands. His feet not touching the floor

Sam hissed as he submerged himself in an icebath. His roommates had kindly bought some ice for Sam and filled the bathtub with it, giving him a pleasant surprise. Although it was freezing, it did help the soreness of his muscles.

"This is the last day Sam. Tomorrow is the day of the tournament. How do you feel?"

"Very sore and very nervous."

"We'll just run through it once today and spend the rest of the time stretching your muscles out. Fish oil helps get rid of the lactic acid in the muscles and will make you hurt less."

The girls felt sorry for Sam and made the boys massage him.

"Ah! Too hard!"

"Sorry," murmured Dominic as he kneaded.

That night, Sam laid awake in his bed and ran through all of his prepared performances.

"I hope I do well. If I get points, the means I can rank up. The higher I get, the more chances and opportunities there are. I want to reach the top."
