We are at a disadvantage, we can’t just focus on literary films...We can’t say that special effects blockbusters are the way out for movies, but special effects blockbusters must be the cornerstone of the film market..."

There are many reasons why Chinese filmmakers are reluctant to invest in special effects. One is that they don't have money to invest, the other is that they can't make special effects blockbusters, and the third is that they can make a lot of money without making blockbuster films. For example, a piece of "Thai 囧" rages at a box office of 1.2 billion, so many eyeballs are shocked. It is precisely these factors that restrict the development of film technology that have led to few Chinese-language films, not to mention blockbuster films, even science fiction films.
