Director’s Legend

0220【Photography and props】

Paul, Inst, and Alves, these are the three assistant directors who joined "Inception". All three have participated in many Hollywood blockbusters. They are rich in experience but do not have much outstanding capital. This is Shao Shuaijun. My favorite type of assistant director. For Hollywood, he is a new director who has had a failure experience, and it is difficult to manage an assistant director who is too arrogant.

With the three assistant directors in place, the crew began efficient preparations. In almost a week, a complete framework was built.

The producers are Shao Shuaijun, Summit Entertainment general manager Mitchell Bruce, and Dream Chaser Film and Television general manager Wang Wei.

The assistant directors are Paul, Inst, and Alves. The assistant director is Gao Zhisheng.

The director of photography is Bob Adams, and the photographers are David Orr, Huang Yuetai, and Hutton Barry.

The action director is Dong Wei.

The art director is Guy Hendrix Deiss, a famous prop master in Hollywood who has worked as a prop master in "Star Wars" and "Batman Begins". He did not join the crew alone, but led a professional team to join. At the same time, the original "Painted Skin" prop team was also brought in by Shao Shuaijun to participate in the prop construction. The top special effects artist of \u003cive Company, a professional special effects company in Hollywood, has participated in the production of epic special effects blockbusters such as "Spider-Man" and "Batman". Another important reason why I chose this company is that they are very accomplished in the synthesis of props and special effects. And not just professional matte painting.

The crew was basically here, and Shao Shuaijun held another meeting.

"It's a pleasure to have everyone working together. Over the next few months, I hope we can work happily and make an amazing movie. Okay, now that you are familiar with the script, let's discuss it next The entire filming process has been arranged. The producer and director team are responsible for the selection of actors, and we will talk about it later. So, Dais, would you like to talk about the construction of props first? "

Guy Hendrix Deiss is over fifty years old. Wearing a pair of reading glasses, he spread out the notebook in his hand: "This is it. According to the script, the prop team and I discussed it once before. We planned about six shooting locations. The first one is the Magic City of China. It needs to be For regular city scenery shooting, you can contact the local government for this. In addition, on Chongming Island, we also need to build a seaside castle, and this work must be started as soon as possible."

"Well, continue."

"Second, when shooting in London, the street scenes are very simple. As for the hotel in the weightless environment, our plan is to have an airport-converted set in Cardington, north London. There is a very large stage there, and we can Build a rotating hotel corridor and hotel room there. Third, shooting in Paris, France, may be difficult, especially blasting issues, which require special experiments, and this also requires preparation in advance. Fourth, in Tangier and Los Angeles, It’s easy to shoot, and the scene where the locomotive rushes onto the street can also be done using a combination of props and special effects.”

"What about the final battle in the Snowy Mountains? How to shoot it?" Shao Shuaijun asked, touching his chin.

Deiss smiled: "Tell the director some good news. My friend told me that there is a mountain range called Fortress Mountain in Banff National Park in Calgary, Canada. It used to be a ski resort, but it has been closed due to efficiency issues. We can go there Shooting snow scenes and building a model of a castle.”

"This is indeed good news. Now that Dais has planned the location, the next step is for us to conduct on-site inspections and build the scenes. The shooting order is Shanghai, London, Paris, Tangier, Calgary and Los Angeles. The prop master We must prepare all the props, and Wang Wei and Mitchell must actively contact the local government to provide cooperation."

"no problem."

Shao Shuaijun flipped through the meeting schedule and continued: "Let's discuss the shooting equipment. Bob, please introduce it."

Bob Adams is tall, strong-looking and has a long beard: "From the analysis of the script, we have to face not only the problem of light, but also the problem of masking and eliminating various props. To achieve the goal According to the director's request, we may need five types of equipment. e, which can help us shoot some ultra-clear shots. hdcam-sr high-speed camera, used to shoot the delayed contrast between dreams and reality, slowing down the speed. Panavision's regular 35mm camera And a special five-hole 35mm camera for regular shooting. There is also a vista-vision aerial camera and an imaolor laboratory for traditional photochemical process light distribution. The exposure to natural light is faster than ordinary digital intermediate films. I hope Before shooting each scene, the director asked us to spend more than ten minutes adjusting the lighting to match the post-production lighting." \u003cing, from the literal meaning of English, you may wonder what this process has to do with "timing time" relation.

This can be traced back to the era of black and white movies. Since there was no intervention of color at that time, light distribution only involved the control of light and dark in the picture. Therefore, all the optical technician has to do is to adjust and record the exposure times required for different lenses, and the word timing comes from this.

After the emergence of color technology, the term timing was still retained and is still used even in the digital age.

Today's light distribution work is performed completely in a digital environment after the film is processed into a digital intermediate. The efficiency and freedom that the light distribution technician can obtain are extremely high. The electronic light distribution technology in the early years was relatively troublesome, but through the electronic circuit imaging of the electronic light distribution machine, the optical technician can still directly preview the light distribution results and work quickly.

The most traditional light distribution uses photochemistry to adjust the exposure of the three primary colors in the film. To observe the adjusted results, a physical intermediate film must be developed. The process is complex and consumes more time and money than the current digital intermediate.

But this is the most real and natural light and dark light.

"If we can shorten the post-production time, of course we can reserve time for your photography team to adjust the lighting." Shao Shuaijun readily agreed. "Inception" pursues a real dream experience. If there are flaws in the picture, it has to be said that this will greatly affect the viewing experience. Therefore, Shao Shuaijun would rather take more trouble to shoot, but also want the best results.

After allocating the specific work, Shao Shuaijun asked the three deputy directors to preside over the scene layout in each place, and he, Mitchell and Wang Wei began to discuss the selection of roles. The most important characters in "Inception", in addition to the Inception Six, there are also two important characters: Phantom and Target.

Shao Shuaijun will personally review these six people, while Mitchell will be responsible for the other supporting roles. (To be continued...)
