"wang jinyi." han meixiu read the name written on the sheet of paper. she definitely saw it earlier. "she wasn't a regular employee. her name was signed mostly as an assistant."

"exactly. she only worked for five months. did you also see the corporations she was handling?" li xiaozhi knew her best friend has an excellent memory specially if she's concentrating but she's only using her brain when she's undoubtedly interested.

han meixiu nodded before she answered. "though there is still one folder i haven't check, i saw she assisted for three events. two were from the same it company and another one from medical related event."

"that doesn't give us much. aren't employees who are in probation can't choose their work?"

"not in the case of c&e." han meixiu then explained that a newbie in the department could choose the person she wanted to assist after a month of being part of the team. it's also the time their name could be included in client's transactions history. in short, wang jinyi personally chose those three events.

as han meixiu read on, she was surprised when she saw the date wang jinyi joined emerald imperial hotel. "she joined 3 years ago?"

"yeah. it means, for about a year, she didn't contact your grandparents. we were wrong with our assumption earlier that she's in coma for four years. i got that record recently from imperial hotel's hr." li xiaozhi explained. "how did your grandparents exactly tell you that your mother called?"

han meixiu recalled that particular day. it was just a passing remark during their conversation over a meal. it just stuck into her memory since it was the day cousin yu visited and her mother was briefly mentioned. she didn't care much about it but she would be lying if she would say it didn't sting when her mother didn't talk to her or even ask about her. she pouted a little and her eyes dimmed.

"it was just mentioned in passing. grandma said my mother only told her not to worry and she's having fun in k country." she then read the next entry and saw another name. it was another job using a different name. "a man power agency?"

li xiaozhi just gestured her to read on the entire thing before saying anything again. after a while she saw the questioning look on han meixiu's face. she then stood up and asked, "is the wall in your bedroom available for a modified crime mapping?"

han meixiu perked up and her elegantly soft-looking eyebrow rose.

the two then got busy for few hours and when they finished, they were somewhat tired. with a single look on the wall, they could clearly see that they needed to gather more answers. it was also now clearer what were the important information they needed first based from the data they have.

"this is fun. your line of work sure is interesting." han meixiu said. both of them were looking at their piece of 'art'.

"if you're not lazy, you could try it." li xiaozhi dismissively answered. her best friend could become a good asset in police force. when she was gathering information about the case they're working on, her brother found out the things she did and warned her. if only she's as good as han meixiu when it comes to erasing her digital footprints, nobody would be able to find out what she did.

she remembered when she wanted to use one of the cases stored in her brother's file for her case study in her class, han meixiu helped her. the case was about the dark web thus she had a hard time getting further information without alerting her brother. with han meixiu's help, she was able to navigate and chose an interesting topic without worry. she then modified the case to be used in her class. this was all secretly hidden from her brother and until now, he's not aware that someone invaded his file.

she looked at meixiu again who was now taking pictures of the wall. maybe this 'case' that they started out of curiosity could give her best friend an ambition to strive for the better? how nice would it be if they could work together everyday to solve cases.

it was already past midnight when the two finally slept. li xiaozhi needed to leave early since she would be starting her training. she would have limited access to her phone so she repeatedly reminded han meixiu the things that she needed to do.

even before she left around 5 in the morning, she reminded her again. han meixiu just nodded without even opening her eyes.

as han meixiu arrived in c&e office around half past eight, she thought she would be questioned about the incident last night when the director invited her to her office. she was actually surprised that most of her superiors were already there when she came in. she just found out later on that the head chief conducted a meeting so early in the morning and it was announced after the event thus she wasn't aware.

"ms han, please go back home and prepare your luggage."

before she could ask why, the director explained that the new head chief ordered each department to send one representative to accompany his inspection of the other imperial hotels throughout the country. the representative should make a report listing the strengths and weaknesses of their respective department in other branch. they needed to compile those data to come up with a comprehensive plan to enhance and standardize, if applicable, the services they're offering.

unfortunately, no one was available to take the task since more than a week of being away would jeopardize the pre-existing arrangements they have. since she's newest member added she didn't have definite responsibilities yet. she was just perfect for the job. it could also help her learn more how c&e operates in different level. according to the director, it's a win-win situation for both sides. she was then instructed to take one of the laptop prepared for this particular task. although it's a bit slow since it was old, nevertheless it's still useful.
