16. Feigning a Faint

Translator: Snowball

“What do you want?”

Xuanyuan Sheng didn’t answer Xuanyuan Jin but turned to Mu Yingxue. “As you have set up this bet, it’s up to you!”

Ignoring the murderous look in Xuanyuan Jin’s eyes, Mu Yingxue curved her lips up. “Prince Jin, since you didn’t raise any objection, you must have agreed that Miss Mei should make good on her promise.”

Mei Qianqian had thought that with the crown prince on her side, Mu Yingxue couldn’t walk out of the teahouse alive today, so she wouldn’t really have to take the punishment. However, to her surprise, Xuanyuan Sheng suddenly stepped in.

She was aware that Prince Sheng wasn’t a reasonable person, so she didn’t dare beg him for mercy for fear that it would make things worse.

“Your Highness…” Mei Qianqian turned to Xuanyuan Jin again.

Seeing her shivering with tears in her eyes, everyone couldn’t help feeling sorry for her.

“Since you’ve laid down the rule yourself, you have to bear the consequences!”

Obviously, Xuanyuan Jin didn’t want to meddle in this matter anymore. With an ashen face, Mei Qianqian collapsed onto the ground. She bit her lip hard with tears streaming down her cheeks.

“Hurry up! I’ve never seen a beauty get kicked in the ass before. It must be fun!”

Seeing that Mei Qianqian turned a deaf ear to what he said, Xuanyuan Sheng instantly burst into fury. “Servants, pull her out of the gate!”

“Prince Jin, help!”

Before being dragged to the gate, Mei Qianqian found it hard to breath and suddenly blacked out.

“Prince Sheng, Miss Mei fainted.”

“Really?” Xuanyuan Sheng said in disbelief with a frown.

Before the servants could check it out, Mu Yingxue walked over. Though she had heard Mei Qianqian’s heart beating robustly, she still nodded and confirmed with a serious look, “Yes, she did pass out.”

The servants stood there, without knowing what to do next.

“Even so, she has to keep her promise…”

Xuanyuan Jin had figured out that Mu Qianqian was feigning it, so he decided to seize this opportunity to help her out. “Brother Sheng, if outsiders learn you’ve made things so hard for such a weak young lady, I’m afraid it might affect your good reputation.”

“It’s said young kids will cry out of fright if they hear my name, so I don’t think my reputation is that good. What’s more, it’s not me who made a bet with Miss Mei.”

Knowing that Xuanyuan Sheng was hinting that if Mu Yingxue agreed to spare Mei Qianqian, he wouldn’t insist on punishing her, Xuanyuan Jin shifted his gaze to Mu Yingxue’s calm face again.

Though Mu Yingxue looked sallow, she had delicate facial features, among which her eyes were extra outstanding, bright and limpid. She was very thin and hadn’t fully developed yet, but there was the other-worldly temperament in her.

“As long as you agree to let Miss Mei off the hook, I can grant you a request.”

“Any request?” Mu Yingxue asked as if it were too much for her to believe.

“Yes! Even if you want to get into my mansion.”

After blurting it out, even Xuanyuan Jin himself was shocked, let alone the others.

“Getting into your mansion?”

Xuanyuan Jin thought that Mu Yingxue had agreed to his terms, so he immediately revealed a look of disdain. “It turned out that she wants to marry me. This young lady is really ambitious!” he thought.

Mu Yingxue realized that Xuanyuan Jin had misunderstood her, so she answered ironically, “Your Highness, I’m not interested in you or your mansion. It’s okay as long as you bear it in mind that you are going to do one thing for me, as for what it will be, I haven’t decided yet. Don’t worry! I won’t ask you to do anything beyond your reach.”

Xuanyuan Jin’s face darkened when he heard that Mu Yingxue wasn’t into him at all. However, as Mu Yingxue had promised that she wouldn’t be too demanding, he couldn’t be fussy, or people would think he was a narrow-minded person. “Fine! Come to me when you’re ready!” he said resentfully.

After reaching an agreement, Xuanyuan Jin asked Senior Feng to have people help Mei Qianqian up, while Xuanyuan Sheng walked upstairs following Mu Yingxue in a good mood.

Now that even the crown prince had made concessions, the smart servants of the Moonlight Pavilion immediately removed Mei Qianqian’s nameplate and were about to replace it with Mu Yingxue’s, but they hadn’t known her name by now.

“Young lady, please wait a moment!”

Mu Yingxue stopped on the staircase and turned her head with the ethereal look in her eyes, which made Senior Feng’s bleak eyes suddenly brighten up.

“Anything else?”

Mu Yingxue’s words pulled Senior Feng back to his senses. At the thought that he had been staring at this young lady just now, he instantly blushed. He lowered his head in haste and answered, “Now that you have beaten the young lady who ranked 11th on the Talented List and taken her place, please tell me your name so that I can have someone put your nameplate on the list.”

Hearing that, in addition to those noble childes and young ladies, Xuanyuan Jin also looked up at Mu Yingxue and picked his ears, waiting for the answer. From the way she was dressed, nobody would say that she was from a rich family. As most of the guests of the Moonlight Pavilion were celebrities in the capital city, if this girl’s family was influential and powerful, they would have heard of her.

Casting a glance at the people downstairs coolly, Mu Yingxue lifted her foot and walked up step by step calmly. When they reached the corner of the staircase, Liu’er suddenly turned her head and announced proudly, “My master is no other than Mu—Ying—Xue—!”

Everyone was stunned at her words. They exchanged glances and saw the disbelief in each other’s eyes.

“What? That moron?”

“It’s impossible!”

“Is she talking about the fourth daughter of Marquis Mu?”

“But I heard she was mentally retarded!”

If Mu Yingxue were an idiot from a normal family, nobody would have known who she was. However, because of Mu Yunxiao’s power in the court, his daughters were all in the spotlight. Moreover, some people with ulterior motives never stopped spreading rumors, so everyone knew Mu Yingxue was Marquis Mu’s retarded daughter.

Hearing Mu Yingxue’s name, Mei Qianqian, who was feigning a faint, suddenly snapped open her eyes while a wooden face crossed her mind. Although the two of them had totally different auras, from the facial features, they were indeed the same person.

Mei Qianqian almost lost her tongue out of rage. She widened her eyes while her chest heaved violently, unable to believe that she had lost to a moron.

“Ah… Mu Yingxue, I can’t believe it’s really you! You retarded twat!”

With that, Mei Qianqian rolled her eyes and fainted for real.

After getting upstairs, Mu Yingxue walked into a box randomly. When Liu’er was about to close the door, Xuanyuan Sheng suddenly popped his head in, which took her aback. Unlike her master, she was only a humble maid, who didn’t dare offend anyone, so Liu’er had to open the door.

After walking around Mu Yingxue for a few times, Xuanyuan Sheng stopped with his arms propping on the table in front of her.

“Are you serious that you’re that moron in the Mu’s Mansion?”

It was a busy square behind the teahouse and as long as the window was open, one could see everything there clearly.

In the middle of the square, hundreds of people packed around the stage, watching the performance.

Out of curiosity, Liu’er moved closer to the window and saw five people were standing around a small table with two bamboo trays of dumplings on it and competing in a contest of eating dumplings. The contest was so fierce that the audience broke into cheering howls from time to time.

There was an incense stick on the stage, which was almost burning out.

A while later, a sturdy woman was declared the champion after she had eaten up 123 dumplings, which brought the atmosphere to a climax.

Next, a middle-aged man walked to the stage while applauding along with the crowd.

“As this lady has won the competition, we have two rewards for her. First, we’ll give her 100 ingots of silver. Second, we’ll invite her to attend our magic show—‘the vanished lady!’”

Seeing that the woman had really gotten the reward of 100 ingots of silver, and all the other contestants had gotten back their entry fee of 20 ingots of silver each, a lot of onlookers jostled to the stage to take part in the game.

“Everyone, please hold on! More chances are waiting for you!”

After a short while, a wooden box about the height of an adult was carried onto the stage with its side facing the audience was covered with black cloth. After introducing the game briefly, the middle-aged man lifted the black cloth, pointed at the box and continued, “Everyone, please take a careful look. There’s nothing inside. Now I’m going to have this lady get into it.”

With that, he reached out and gestured the strong woman to enter the box. “Madam, please!”

Having just won the dumpling eating contest, the woman was in high spirits now, so she readily accepted the invitation. Waving her hand to the audience with a smile, she stepped into the wooden box.

After that, the middle-aged man put down the black cloth and made a few mysterious gestures with a serious look on his face, which made everyone gaze nervously at him.

“Ha!”

After a few minutes, the middle-aged man gave a sudden cry before landing his palm on the black cloth. Being both excited and nervous, the audience was startled by him, wondering what was going on. Meanwhile, they couldn’t help stretching out their necks.

Turning with a smug look, the middle-aged man looked around and asked, “I cast a spell which was passed through generations in our family on the box just now. Do you want to know how that lady is doing now?”

A busybody immediately stood on his tiptoe and shouted, “Bro, don’t keep us waiting! Come on! Open the box and let us take a look!”

“Please open the box! We can’t wait anymore!”

Many people said in response to his words. They were thrilled even at the thought of the name of the magic performance and couldn’t wait to see what had happened to that woman.

“Haha!”

Hearing that, the middle-aged man decided not to go on puzzling the audience. He turned around and suddenly lifted the black cloth. “As you wish, everyone!” he said, waving his hand.

“Ah!”

“Of course I’m Mu Yingxue. Prince Sheng, is there anything wrong?”
