Continuous School
101 The big day
Today was the big day. Over a week has passed since prom and we were at the last hurdle before continuing our school journey. We had to get our results.
It was a simple process, you go to school, find your name and get handed a giant envelope with a piece of paper that has a letter on it. Today, Sean, Ethan and I have all shown up together. It had been a good while since we last all spoke to each other. I told Sean what happened at Prom so that he doesn't say anything stupid, but something about Ethan seems different.
"What are you wearing?" I asked the man dressed in a full samurai costume.
"It's my good luck costume." Ethan the samurai replied. "It brings me good luck."
"Does it now?" I said sarcastically. What good will luck do now? It's not like the numbers are decided when we pick up the paper.
"Hey, guys," Ruby said coming over with her envelope already in hand.
"Some one's eager," I said.
"Of course. I want to see if I beat you or not."
Ah, that's right. How could I forget? A while back we made a bet. Whoever it was that got a higher mark on the music exam would be able to make the loser do whatever they wanted. I even remember studying super hard just to make sure that doesn't happen.
"Go on," Ruby said pushing me. "Go get your results."
"Alright, alright."
I went to quickly get my results, not because I wanted to know, but because Kaylee also arrived with Ruby. Ethan and Sean were now left alone with those two and I can't hear them from over here. Ethan doesn't seem to be saying anything, he is just smiling and nodding. The armour is really making a lot of noise, I wish he'd take it off.
I need to hurry up and get back so I can save him.
"Okay, I got my envelope," I said rushing back.
"Shall we open it together," Ruby asked.
"Sure I don't mind."
As I was about to open my envelope I felt a tug on my jumper. I looked over to see Ethan staring at me with emotionless eyes that felt like a puppy abandoned on in the middle of a road.
"Before you open that," he said. "Can you come with me to get mine."
"S-sure…" I said. "Sorry about this Ruby, I'll be back later."
"So what did you pull me away for?" I asked.
"Um… I kinda just want to get my results and leave," he said.
"Ok. You can do that."
"Do you think Kaylee will care if I just suddenly left?"
It was hard to see him like this, it was obvious that it was hurting him to be here.
"You do what works best for you. If being here is painful then I'll make an excuse for why you had to leave. I'll say your sister misses you or something."
"T-thanks…" he said. "Ah, I'm sorry for what happened at prom. It must have been embarrassing."
"Sorry about that," I said returning to Ruby and Kaylee.
"Where did Ethan go?" Kaylee asked.
"He said he had to go. His sister wanted to do something with him so he couldn't stay long."
"Ah, I see."
It seemed that Kaylee also had a similar expression to Ethan. I don't exactly understand what happened between the two of them. I was wrong to force them together.
"Can we open them now?" Ruby said interrupting my thoughts.
"Ah sure."
Ruby was impatient and ripped it apart.
"HA 96! Good luck beating that. Now, now now. What should I have you do?"
"96 out of 100. That's pretty impressive" Kaylee said. "I don't think I got anything above 90"
"97," I said.
"Excuse me?" Ruby said
"That's what I got. I got 97!"
Before I could finish Ruby snatched the paper out of my hands and pushed it up to her eyes double-checking the mark.

"WHAT!" She screamed "THERE IS NO WAY! YOU MUST HAVE CHEATED!!!!!"
"Haha…" Kaylee said. "Congrats on the high mark."
"Thanks, and I didn't cheat. I just studied."
It took Ruby almost 10 minutes to calm down, during that time I found Sean and Lily who were discussing their marks and comparing scores. Sean seemed kinda disappointed in his results. His highest mark was Media with 70. He wasn't sure if he was going to make it into sixth form with an average of 53, so he had to discuss it with the teachers. Lily decided to go with him, apparently, she did better than I did. Her average mark was 76 with mine being 71.
After calming down Ruby came back over and admitted defeat. She seemed to have flipped a switch and become extremely happy when she found out she beat me in averages, we both had an average of 71 so we had to go to 2 decimal places, to which she had 71.44 and I had 71.33. It truly was a shame, but the bet wasn't on averages so it didn't bother me, but her weird victory dance was something that was really strange. She danced like an octopus being cooked alive. Clearly, she needs to work on something. Maybe I should force her to do dance lessons.
