Boss from another world

24 Sucker for pain

In a stereotypical French accent he replied "today monsieur we have pasta bacon and the pièce de résistance is my own home made cheese sauce."

"You going into cooking when you retire?"

"Nope but when you work by yourself you tend to pick up a few recipes you're good at."

"When is it going to be ready?" Dante said rather impatiently as his stomach gave a loud growl.

"In a couple of minutes why don't you set the table over yonder." Reaper said in an unhurried matter waving his hand to a folding table which looked like something you would go camping with.

Dante sighed as he collected plates and cutlery from the cupboard setting them on the table neatly each aligned perfectly at just the right distance away from the plate. "If only I had a white table cloth, a vase of red roses, a candelabra and a member of the opposite sex I would have a romantic cave dinner."

Reaper walked over with a large mental pan as Dante finished setting the table and sat down on the cheap plastic folding chair. "Dinner is served." He proudly stated as he dumped a couple spoon fulls of pasta on Dante's plate. Dante looked curiously at the meal dumped on front of him then pasta was penne shaped with the creamy yellowish sauce and the darken bits of bacon littered inside the meal it looked a lot like a carbonara sauce from Dante's old world.

Dante gently blew on the forkful of pasta as Reaper served his own dinner still humming a happy melody he went and grabbed a jug of water pouring it in both cups before he finally sat down. Dante looked at Reaper who was still wearing the ridiculous hot pink apron which Dante would have laughed at had the man not been a highly trained possibly sadistic assassin that had Dante's life in the palm of his hand. Reverting his gaze back at his food Dante started eating the rich savory flavor burst in his mouth as Dante thought in bliss "can't believe he's actually a good cook."

Reaper cleared his throat ripping Dante from his thoughts. "Is the food good?" He asked in a civilized tone like how a professional chef would ask a judge of their opinion on the chefs new dish.

About "12 hours roughly." Reaper answered between mouthfuls. "Looks like you haven't been getting enough sleep recently." Reaper commented.

Dante stayed silent as he stared at the plate of food in front of him. Sighing he put his fork down looked Reaper in the eye and asked "what happened when you first killed a man?"

"When I first killed a man huh?" Reaper thought back through all his memories. The dark stormy night. The walls painted red with blood. The banshee like cries of children inter mingled with the buffering winds and lashing rain surrounded by buildings ablaze. Closing his eyes leaning back on his chair. "Why did you want to know?" He wondered around narrowing his eyes.

"Because That is what I'm losing sleep over." Dante mumbled as he picked up his fork and started playing with his food.

"Then why do you want to know my story?" Reaper asked his face relaxing slightly.

"I thought it might help since you're a killer and all." Dante spoke quietly his cheeks turning red on embarrassment.

"Do you know why I don't loose any sleep?" Reaper asked.

"Um your a heartless bastard?" Dante offered.

"No asshole because I had a reason to kill they were in my way." Reaper stated resolutely.

"So if some poor guy accidentally stopped you in the street you would gun him down?" Dante laughed sarcastically.

"I mean maybe depends how much of a dickhead he was when I ran into him." Reaper replied with a thoughtful expression.

"So I just need to lie to myself that I have a reason to kill others?" Dante asked skeptically.

"Pretty much sums it up. Get use to it or get enough alcohol to forget everything." Reaper agreed in a wise sage like voice.

Dante felt a headache coming as he put his head in his hands "get use to it isn't that an apathetic thing I would say in my old life." Dante laughed at the irony as tears were starting to Well in his eyes.

"Well now we have done touchy feeling time. it is now to start lessons which we shall be continuing until I am clear?" Reaper commanded as he derailed Dante's line of thoughts.

"Sir yes sir." Dante chanted unenthusiastically.

"That was awful and so because of that and my fees as a consultant we shall do double to day." Reaper declared.

"Sadistic bastard." Dante grumbled in his mind as he spent the rest of the week trying to get used to his new life.
