[End of the Devil’s Hour]

“Ggshaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!”

Cthulhu released a madness-filled scream. She glared at the enemies with her innumerable eyes and brandished her gigantic tentacles.

“I-isn’t that Yuri’s familiar?!”

“Why is it in Beginning Town?!”

The sudden event threw the magicians into a state of panic.

They switched their target from us and started firing their magic at Cthulhu—but…

“Gggg… ggshaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!”

The Forbidden Evil Dragon refused to fall. Even as fluids that made up her body scattered from the spells, she attacked the magicians without hesitation.

Wielding her uneven, sharp-toothed tentacles, she devoured, crushed, and mowed them down.

On the other side of the window, I could see Alice panicked at the sight of her.

[W-what’s going on?! Isn’t that monster can only be summoned in a land you owned…? Wasn’t it supposed to be protecting Helheim…?!]

“Well, it’s simple, really. I just had a similar idea as Pendragon. I bought a plot of land in the Beginning Town and had her possess it.”

[What did you say…?!]

This was going to be a grueling war. There was no way I wouldn’t prepare a few cards up my sleeve.

“Of course, I never expected that the Beginning Town would be the center of the battlefield. ‘The enemy won’t approach Helheim since they will think Cthulhu will be protecting it anyway; it’d be better to station him somewhere else’—with that idea in mind, I had her hide in the town as a trap.”

As a result…

“By sheer coincidence, you ended up moving your home base to the town where Cthulhu was lying in hiding! Seems like you’re the ‘unlucky’ ones here, eh?”

[Khhh…!]

Alice clenched her small fists. In the meantime, Cthulhu continued her rampage and devoured the magicians.

Good, keep it up, Ku-chan. I had been waiting for the moment when their strongest magician unit ran out of juice so you wouldn’t die in one hit.

So now, rampage. Rampage and keep killing till your last breath.

“Ggyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!”

Spells hit Ku-chan. Swordmen slashed at Ku-chan. The enemy’s familiars bit Ku-chan.

–Still, she refused to fall down. No matter how many wounds marred her body, my familiar kept on fighting.

It was time. Let’s pay them back for their kind welcome.

“Demon King’s Army, charge–!!!!!”

[Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!]

With a roar, everyone broke into a run.

We mustn’t let Ku-chan’s hard work go to waste. Dodging through the sparse magic attacks, we kept pushing forward without an ounce of fear.

In what seemed a blink of an eye, we crossed a distance of several hundred meters.

“Yuri-san…!”

Eventually, the video call was no longer needed.

We could see each other clearly now. On top of the high wall, Alice’s face was dripping with cold sweat.

I pushed closer toward her.

“You truly are a terrifying person. One that should never be turned into an enemy.”

On her dying breath, Cthulhu swung out her tentacle at Alice glaring at me.

But, the little devil didn’t even look back and shot an oversized beam of destruction behind her.

A large hole burst open in the evil dragon’s body, and she finally sunk into the earth.

“…You did an amazing job, Ku-chan. –And so did you, Alice. Now, I’m going to kill you!”

“Try it if you can, Yuri!”

I kept on running and then leaped toward Alice.

With the buff from the boss monster, Maa-kun the ‘Queen Nitocris’, who dwelled in my equipment, my jump went as high as 10 meters.

Alice was finally close. But of course, she wouldn’t just stand there and let me get closer.

“‘—I am the fallen ruler of darkness. From the dark, cold depths of Hell, I wish for the end of the stars.’”

A dignified chant of certain doom echoed. In the next moment, a huge magic formation manifested over Alice’s head.

“‘Let the light of wrath burn down the foolish ones’.”

Evil light gathered.

Energy surged into the magic formation and converged in the center, crackling.

I could tell at a glance. This spell would wipe me out of existence in one hit.

And if my whole body turned to dust, my ‘Tenacity’ would be meaningless.

“Die, Yuri! Ultimate Dark Spell—‘Starbreak Judgment’!”

Finally, the ultimate destructive light was about to unleash—but right at that time…

“Activate Special Action Art, ‘Void Kick’!”

Using the air as a foothold, I bent my knees.

Special Action Art ‘Void Kick’. One of the arts I had learned on my journey apprenticing myself to various masters; it allowed you to make contact with the empty space, if for the briefest moment. Simply put, you could double-jump with it.

But I wasn’t done yet. I sent telepathy to Maa-kun through our unbreakable bond of friendship and asked him to activate ‘Flickering’–!

“I named this, ‘Void Flickering’!”

“W-whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!”

And so, the battle was over.

Everything happened in an instant. The moment before the light of destruction swallowed everything, I appeared right before Alice.

As we were about to pass by each other, I extended my hand—shaped like a blade—and drove it into her torso.

“Gh… ha…”

The little devil collapsed on the spot.

All it took was one blow. Because, like me, she was an extreme-type player who focused on one aspect while sacrificing everything else.

Her ‘1’ HP was reduced to ‘0’, and her body began to turn into particles of light.

It was proof that you died in this world.

“Aha-ha… I didn’t imagine you to have that kind of move; you got me. I… lost. But–”

—I will win next time.

Alice said, squeezing the last of her strength. Her burning red eyes were oh-so-beautiful.

To her, I replied.

“I welcome you to challenge me again another time. But the result will still be the same. I’ll win.”

No matter how many times you challenge me, I will never lose.

The moment I said that, Alice gave me a wry smile, “You truly are a terrifying girl,” and disappeared, leaving particles of light.
