   Chapter 802 Ninety-three. Choice

Bronte Department Store is on the third floor, facing Weinstein Hospital.

To avoid another assassination against Lu Li, the city hall guards occupied the place after Lu Li was taken to the hospital.

Mayor    Mateus stood by the window, across the wide street filled with fog, a figure leaning against the window in the lighted ward.

"If we do this, Your Excellency Lu Li knows he won't like it."

   The assistant sighed from behind.

"I will apologize later, I hope he can understand me." Mayor Matthaus frowned tiredly. "How's the investigation going?"

"The assassin came from the town of Little Henry, downstream of the railway. His family had a brother who died two years ago as a scavenger due to pollution, and then came to Wiener Freeze Harbor alone."

"how did it get here."

"Along the railway. Like many villagers, he also longed for this place, but he had no money to buy a ticket, so he could only go along the railway tracks to Wiener Antifreeze Port. After arriving, he had contact with some gangs."

Contact with gangs is not a concern of assistants. Many penniless out-of-towners come to Wiener Unfrozen and have nowhere to stay, and they come into contact with gangs. Either they take the initiative, or the gang takes the initiative.

"A lot of doubts, right?" Mayor Mateus looked at the silhouette behind the curtain on the opposite side. "Can a poor man get a musket, break into the Deli vault without any hindrance, go to the third floor, and then assassinate Lu Li, who had not changed his room for a long time?"

It seems that everyone and everything is suspect.

   Gangs that have been in contact with assassins; unknowingly the profit treasury; city hall employees who leaked Lu Li’s location; weirdness that naturally opposes Lu Li; political frame-up by hostile organizations such as the Brotherhood;

"More than that, the Assassin also respects nostalgia for the old days."

The assistant whispered: "A fan of the old days assassinated the glory of the old days..."

"Do you think there is something wrong with his identity?" Mayor Mateus looked back briefly and asked rhetorically.

"Assassins are indeed human, and the pollution is not so serious that they can't keep their senses..." The assistant just explained the facts, but did not express his opinion.

"Although, there is no third person here." Mayor Mateus gestured to his assistant.

The young assistant from the earl family thought for a while and replied: "The assassin must be an executor, not a plotter. He was thrown as cannon fodder to assassinate Lu Li, and the plotter didn't even teach him how to use a gun, indicating that he did not want His Excellency Lu Li. Wait... it means that the planner doesn't care whether Lu Li is dead or alive."

People who don't know how to use a musket have a high probability of hitting another person at a distance of tens of meters, but there is a small probability that they can. For example, this assassination bullet rubbed the ground and flew past the neck, just a little bit.

"So... do you think the planners don't care whether Lu Li will die or not, nor how much loss Lu Li's death will bring to Wiener Freeze Harbor and mankind?"

"I think so." The assistant lowered his head.

No upper echelon wants to manage a chaotic Wiener Freeze Harbor.

"But the Brotherhood made a lot of small moves today," said Mayor Mateus.

"They've been trying to get your seat for a long time, this is a good opportunity."

The fingers tapped on the window sill unconsciously, and Mayor Mateus pondered and issued an order: "Focus on digging out the people he has contacted in Little Henry Town and Wiener Antifreeze, and send people to the town to investigate his character, confirm first. Was it brainwashed and then figured out a way to pull the court into this case."

"But we haven't found any weird traces of this assassination yet."

"Let's just say that, the safety of the last exorcist is enough for them to join in."

After thinking about it, Mayor Mateus asked, "Where's Advisor Lowry?"

"He understood what you were doing and did nothing." The assistant hesitated, then added, "The Brotherhood is fighting for this position."

"They are likely to get this position?"

"Yes, the Presbytery is very dissatisfied with what happened. Even if the assassination investigation clears them, they will take this position to discipline you... And without the Privy Council you will have less say."

"It's already the best ending..." Mayor Matthaus said tiredly.

At least the exorcist is fine.

The assistant who echoed in his heart nodded lightly and looked out the window again.

In front of the ward window, a bare hanger was projected on the curtain.

   "Huh? Just now..."

The    assistant's expression became astonished.

   "Let's go over!"

With a low voice   , Mayor Matthaus hurried out of the room.

  …

  嘭嘭——

The door of the ward was shaken, and it was silent inside.

   "Bump away."

In the corridor, Mayor Matthaus pursed his lips and spoke.

The captain of the guard nodded, took a few steps back, and slammed into the door.

  Kacha——

The lock behind the door was knocked open, and Mayor Mateus stepped on a small piece of sawdust, surrounded by assistants and guards, and walked into the ward.

The hanger stood in front of the window, and there was a pile of sheets at his feet.

   "Lu Li Pavilion—"

The assistant    lifted the bulging quilt, which, as expected, contained only a pillow.

"Did Your Excellency Exorcist leave or was..." The assistant's face was ugly.

Mayor Mateus sighed helplessly, and his eyes fell on a letter lying on the bedside table.

  …

"good idea."

Katarina echoed Barry, with a hint of sarcasm: "But can you not be caught by them?"

"I can--"

"Need not."

Lu Li stared at the smudged mist: "They didn't know we were here, they were just guessing. Hide on the boat."

"But I dare not..." Barry scratched the back of his head in distress.

"Yeah... The big ship doesn't like Barry, maybe it will be driven down." Perseus echoed.

"Let's go around to the other side." Lu Li said, suddenly instinctively aware of something strange.

The merchants are hostile to Barry, and the ships are hostile to him?

   "Do you want to escape!?"

Mayor Mateus' shout suddenly echoed outside the shipyard.

  …

   Guards with torches surrounded him.

The port is very cold in the early morning, and even hundreds of torches cannot dispel the chill.

Mayor Mateus stared at the dark ship repair yard ahead and continued to shout: "This is no offense. We all know what you have done, and no one is braver than you! But to the citizens of Wiener Freeze Harbor , you are running away!"

"If you, as a faith and legend, leave after the attack, they will panic, feel uneasy, doubt themselves, and fall into chaos."

"This will cause a disaster in the frozen port of Wiener, and weirdness will also take advantage of this, and the only star in the Lord's Continent will be extinguished."

The tip of Mayor Mateus's nose was red from the cold, and he let out his depression as he exhaled the white mist.

"Do you really have the heart to see this happen!"

"For the people here, for the people who still have hope—"

Mayor Mateus, assistants, senators who came, hundreds of guards, they were waiting.

In the eyes of everyone, a tall and tall figure slowly emerged in the shadow of the shipyard.
