27 – Episode 27

I forgot that my probation was over today and slept in as usual. It felt like I was almost two hours late.

I quickly get out of bed, wash my body with only water, and leave the room wearing only one uniform that will not wear out.

I wonder if there really is magic in the school uniform, even if I drop cigarette ash and spill wine on it, the clothes don’t get burned and don’t get stained.

Thanks to this, it doesn’t smell and stays clean even if you wear it all day.

I’m not sure how the hell that happens.

If you hold on to the person who made the clothes for you later on and ask them, they will answer everything.

Anyway, I walk past the maid who makes a strange face at the students walking around during this time, and walk down the hallway and enter the classroom.

Mr. Louise looks at me with a nonchalant face and then tells me to sit down.

“It’s a little late.”

“Oh, well. Sorry.”

“Please take a seat.”

I tried to make an excuse, but I kept my mouth shut because I thought it would be meaningless to say anything.

I met Miguel’s eyes before I sat down.

Looking at me, he slightly frowned, as if he had gained more weight during his probation period, but the flesh under his eyelids was shaking.

What should I eat to gain that much weight?

You damn pig.

Let’s keep looking at him without avoiding his gaze.

I guess someone warned me, my father or something.

Anyway, when I sat down, the desk was back, and even the graffiti had been erased.

Put the book you brought on the desk instead of on your lap and read while pretending to be in class.

Because listening to something you already know doesn’t mean you learn more.

As I sat down, I started hearing whispers around me.

-How did you get that grade without even showing up to class?

-During the probation period, Mr. Visconti personally took the test papers to the dorm and took her test.. I heard that Mr. Visconti was a tutor in Breslau.

-Then maybe the two of them got hit in the eye?

-What do you miss about the Visconti family?

-But it’s nonsense that everything was right in the first place!

It must have been about the exam.

Ignoring the chatter next to me, I smoke the book I was reading and continue reading.

It was another story about the emperor that the maid brought the other day.

The contents written in the responsibilities written at the same time are also completely different.

Yes, the story about the Emperor was a genre novel.

Fiction. It’s a good reference for how people of that era thought of emperors.

It was a novel, not a history book that shattered the imagination of how the emperor came to power.

The title and cover felt like a history book, but as I read it, I kept coming up with a story that was different from the facts I knew, and I had a maid go to the library and ask.

A novel that feels like the long-awaited world we originally lived in, but with the difference that even historical facts were adapted for the fun of the novel.

That’s right, from the battle to the famine, and the events that took place are completely different from the original history, you can’t help but notice.

It wasn’t the maid’s fault for bringing such a book, so she couldn’t even scold me, so I felt like I was the only one suffering.

I was ashamed because I thought it was true, but I felt ashamed for the fact that I ordered it.

Others will read the book and feel how incompetent the emperor was and how important lineage is, but I felt something different.

Even an illegitimate child can sit in a high seat if he puts his mind to it.

At most, something happened in one line in a few years. It was a feeling that could not be felt in a history book where the same fact was written.

I don’t know after he became emperor, but he was a very attractive person before he became emperor.

At least for me.

But since novels are novels, the story ends with the emperor, who is always described as evil, being kicked out by his son.

Although the actual history did not.

In this way, novels have always been attractive to me.

Because it seems like they make fiction into reality and bring the result in front of me and shake it.

The teacher started erasing all the blackboards in class.

Then, he walks around and distributes the small test papers that he put under her textbook to each student.

It was a paper test.

When you receive the paper and try to solve the problem, you realize that your hands are empty.

A pen, come to think of it, I didn’t bring a pen.

I asked an unknown child in the back seat to borrow a pen.

She then handed her the pen with a smirk on her face and was told that it was not necessary to give it back and that she should keep writing.

The test was simple.

All I had to do was write down the lessons I had just written on the blackboard on the divided paper.

I already wrote down the answer right away because it was a class I had already learned one-on-one with Louise before.

After about 10 minutes, the teacher has a student start collecting her papers.

I didn’t feel particularly inspired even though it was a class I hadn’t taken in a long time.

It was a repetition of what I already knew.

She had to keep her eyes on me while attending class, but she didn’t care much.

Because the book I was reading was so exciting.

Even though I know it’s half-fiction.

Class is over.

“Ah, Eric Breslau.

Please follow me to my office before going to lunch.”

Before going to lunch, Louise talks to me to come to class.

The classmates’ gossip intensified, but she didn’t seem to care.

-Look, what I said earlier is correct?

-No, what is right, I guess there was a problem with the paper test I saw earlier

-I said it earlier, but in the first place, I met Banpun because I felt sorry for the Visconti family’s daughter.

Her I follow her down her hallway.

We talked while walking.

“I hear a lot of interesting stories. Yes?”

“Teacher, do you find this interesting?”

At that, Louise giggled.

“Of course, you never know. I really don’t know if I’m trying to seduce the young master right now.”

Then he crosses her arms and brings her breasts together.

I don’t think I’ve felt like this before, but was the atmosphere originally like this when I was outside?

After walking for a while, I passed the corridor and entered the teachers’ room. The smell of tobacco was stronger than the last time.

“Hmm, I was joking just a moment ago. Straighten your face.”

Hearing that, I groped my face once.

Strangely, I feel like I can’t manage my expression well these days.

She takes out one of her cigarettes, puts it in her mouth, and hands one to me as well.

Then the two of us spread the smoke once in the air and then started talking.

It feels like a slightly hazy atmosphere is created thanks to the misty air.

“By the way, compared to last time, your face has gotten a lot brighter.”

“Looks like that.”

“Anyway, the reason for calling is simple. Because you got first place in your class. Congratulation.”

Hmm, what kind of impressions should I add?

Nothing came to mind.

Because it felt a bit obvious.

“Is there anything good about it?”

“I don’t have it yet, maybe if I take the test three more times.”

“Why am I number 1 in the first place? You must have taught while I wasn’t attending classes.”

“It’s just, um. I said it was an open book test. Ordinary nobles don’t memorize books that well, maybe it’s the Faculty of Magic.”

She rubs her tobacco in the ashtray.

And she sighs and mutters to herself as if she’s a bit confused.

“So did you find out what you wanted to do? What you just said is not empty. Your complexion looks pretty good.”

“Yes, thank you.”

“I wish you well, ah. That’s right. Come to think of it, Lady Xenia asked me to tell her that she wants to have lunch with her after class.”

“Are you Xenia?”

“Yes, so let’s go.

Wouldn’t she be waiting for you if you go to the front of the classroom?”

Xenia is waiting.

I don’t think they’re waiting for me with all the kids that follow them.

Because just being in the same room with people who hate me feels like my stamina is draining.

As Mr. Louise said, Xenia is waiting for me alone in front of the classroom.

Where did she send her children, the friend she always dragged along?

Although she thought she was happy, she was puzzled.

“Eric! See you now.”

“Where are the kids you always took with you?”

“I just said I was going alone today because I was a bit tired!”

That’s a lie.

Her habit of smiling awkwardly and snagging her right foot with her arms behind her back still hasn’t changed.

No, no one ever had to say anything or lie.

I kept looking at Xenia with her crooked gaze.

She wondered what she said and threw it away, but she didn’t say it out of her mouth.

“So why did you ask to see me while leaving a note to the teacher?”

“It’s just… We’ve been very awkward lately. I’m here to say let’s meet again, go for a walk, and hang out.”

“…….”

Why did the girl who avoided me when I approached now come and approach me like this?

Wasn’t she shy about things like me, so she didn’t even say hello when we made eye contact, and she just walked away?

“Why, now they’re here.”

Unbeknownst to her, her innermost feelings came out, albeit in a small way.

Perhaps it was because she whispered at least, Xenia didn’t seem to hear.

Or she pretended not to hear.

“Eric what…? I didn’t hear what you just said.”

“No, shall we go get a cup of coffee?”

“Yes!”

Xenia casually jumped next to me and crossed her arms.
