Battle of the Third Reich

Vol 6 Chapter 1: Devil (Intro)

In the twentieth century, Shanghai, no matter which European or American country, admits that it is a veritable largest city in the Far East, full of opportunities and hopes, but also full of filth and sin. There are countless literary works for this city There are unique nicknames such as "Adventure's Paradise", "Eastern New York", "Eastern Paris", "Miracle City" and "Magic City".

The war of 1937 completely changed the face of the city. She became the first world-class metropolis destroyed by war in the Second World War. The Japanese navy bombed residential areas and created hundreds of thousands. For the homeless refugees, more than 900 factory enterprises and handicraft workshops were destroyed, and more than 1,000 factories and facilities were occupied by the Japanese army. At the same time, many important large enterprises moved to the mainland in the early days of the war.

That year, the city lost 70% of its industrial production capacity. Although Japan made a series of efforts to resume production, until the establishment of New China, Shanghai’s industrial scale did not return to that before the war. Level.

The closure of the factory caused more than 600,000 unemployed workers, fearing the bombing of the Japanese army, a large number of war refugees poured into the concession. In September, 1937, the public concession and the French concession increased in just a few weeks. 2.5 million inhabitants, including high-value businessmen and compradors, and solitary poor laborers. At that time, the public concession was overcrowded. At that time, even the famous big world entertainment club was full of people who had fled from Zhabei.

After the Battle of Songhu, the urban areas and suburbs of Shanghai were occupied by Japanese troops. Only two concessions retained extraterritoriality. It is ironic to say that the humiliation treaty signed by the Manchus in Qing Dynasty blocked the Japanese from the concessions. Since then, the city has begun a long three-year "isolated island" life.

Of course, this is what happened in the original history, because the wings of an apostle flapped too diligently, and the situation in Shanghai is now clearly different from history.

Historically, from three to seven years to 40 years, in just three years, Shanghai changed its three-term municipal government. It was originally founded by the Japanese occupying forces [Shanghai Avenue Government], whose name comes from "Book of Rites" "Li Yun", "The Avenue is also open, the world is public.", also specially formulated a so-called "city flag" with a white background with a Tai Chi logo in the middle, trying to use it to replace the city's concessions still hanging Qingtian Bairiqi, but the plan was terminated with the cancellation of the "Government Government", anyway, the concession did not take this seriously.

The next municipal government was the "Shanghai Special City Government" set up by the so-called "Republic of China Restoration Government" formed by the traitor Liang Hongzhi. The result lasted for only six months and was replaced by the Wang Puppet regime. "Shanghai Municipal Government". What is interesting is that there was actually a "Shanghai City Government in Exile" at the time in the state government of Chongqing.

It seems that the frequency of the city regime change is very fast, but in fact the team behind it is still the same, but just changed a signboard outside.

At this time, Shanghai was actually divided into three cities. The public concession and the French concession were merged into one side. The rest were the Japanese military occupation area in the public concession and the Shanghai area under the control of Wang Pseudo. The three parties were in this city. Entangled together, using each other and fighting each other, soon a strange balance was formed on this land.

The only area that the so-called Shanghai municipal government really controls is the Nanbe Zhabei Jiangwan generation. The rest of the Huxi region has become a land of no ownership due to its strength and complexity, and it is of little value. Various criminal gangs and special agencies and Underground organizations have turned over and over here, bringing serious security problems to the concession.

In particular, the special agents of the Wang puppet government and the military uniform of Chongqing regard the concession as their battlefield, and assassinations, kidnapping, robbery, and drug trafficking cases have risen linearly.

Historically, because the European war continued, the management department of the public concession lost its toughness, because they feared that Japan would take over the concession of the concession. Want to please the Japanese military, even at the expense of its own interests.

The French Concession can maintain stability within the concession because the Vichy government surrendered to Germany. After all, France has been regarded as a German sphere of influence, and the Japanese are still somewhat taboo about this. Historically, the French Concession persisted until 1943, only because of pressure from all sides, and finally gave up all the privileges of the Concession. Since then, Shanghai has truly been the fall of the city.

But now that the European war has all ended, the backing public concession has regained its former tough attitude. More than half of this has been classified as German forces, and the rest belongs to the strong American. If Japan and Wang Puppet government cannot see If you are used to it, you can send troops to fight.

The French Concession is even more domineering. The glory of France cannot be bullied. The affairs in the Concession are decided by Lao Tzu.

Especially since September this year, the Ministry of Industry of the Public Concession passed with a majority of votes, removing a Japanese ministry director who had been stuck in for three or eight years. At the same time, the police department of the Ministry of Industry and Fire also dismissed ten Japanese detectives who had risen vigorously from the patrol, and abolished the special office set up by the Japanese.

The Director General of the Ministry of Industry, Fan Keling (Franklin's transliteration) suddenly changed his appeasement in the past and arrogantly told Japan that if Japan was dissatisfied with this, it would be possible to separate Hongkou Yangpu and other areas north of the Suzhou River from the public concession.

The Japanese Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Minister in Nanjing and the Consul General of Shanghai, Hori Kangan, was taken aback by this. He has long been in diplomatic work in China and has never seen such an arrogant and unruly thing. This is simply slapping the Great Japanese Empire.

Horiuchi, who had served as the director of the East Asia Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is a China passer. He also has a deep understanding of the West and is a qualified diplomat. He knows that the end of the European War will have a profound impact on the world situation, especially the failure of Japan to form an alliance with Germany. Hori feels very sorry and nervous because it means that Japan can no longer use the covenant as a condition to prevent Germany's power expanded to the Asian region.

Japan’s diplomatic service has always had its own unique perspective. Diplomats are very clear. Unless Japan is ready to be the enemy of all Europe, it can only watch the Germans slowly infiltrate the Asian colonies.

Now it seems that the previous worries have become a reality, at least in this wonderful place of Shanghai, the change has already begun.
