Chapter 21: The fight of the magic swordsman

Magic.

It is the greatest and most unknown power of mankind.

Those who have magic powers within them perform miracles by using a certain language, actions and knowledge.

It has been passed down from generation to generation and has become increasingly rare as the number of people who have adapted to it has decreased.

Just the fact that someone can use magic makes a significant difference between those who can and those who cannot.

“Hmm, what’s wrong, Amelia?”

“Ah, yes, it’s really magic…. You can do it.”

“You didn’t believe me?”

“No, not that I thought you were lying. I was just wondering if it was real or not.”

I find myself contradicting myself.

In other words: I was skeptical, and I admitted it.

“Do you feel a little more confident now?”

“Hmm… I’m not sure.”

“What is it? What do I have to do to make you feel safe?”

“That’s definitely the case!”

Defeat the Drake and return safely to the estate.

And the people, Thomas and the others, can go home happy.

That’s all I want.

I followed the ice path Thomas had made and entered the cave behind the waterfall.

Inside it was cool and damp.

Was that because the river was flowing over the waterfall?

A few drops fell from the ceiling.

We continued walking by the light of the lantern.

“Hey, Shun, don’t you think this cave is strange?”

“Do you think so too, Thomas?”

“Yes. We’ve been walking straight ahead for a while now, and there are some irregularities in the walls. I’ve been here a few times, but I’ve never seen a cave like this.”

“That’s true. I suspect the Drake dug it. To build a den.”

That’s possible.

I did some research on Drakes and found that they build their caves in the ground or on walls.

Sometimes they use existing caves, but digging their own is easier and more memorable than natural caves?

I don’t know how the monster feels, but that’s what I’ve heard.

Did they choose the back side of the waterfall to hide the entrance?

If so, it seems to have some intelligence.

We walk along in silence for a while.

With each step we take, the sound echoes back to us.

It is eerie and frightening.

One has the feeling of being watched all the time.

Suddenly, Mr. Shun stops.

“…It’s here.”

“Is it around?”

“Yes. The sounds have changed. Maybe there’s a big cave up ahead.

So it’s there.

Up ahead there… It’s too dark to see anything, but I have a bad feeling.

I gulp.

I had prepared myself for this situation.

But the feeling of dread still seems to overtake me.

“Amelia.”

“Yes, what?”

“Why don’t you step back now?”

Thomas asked with a frown on his face.

He must have seen that I was scared.

He seemed to be teasing me, which made me uncomfortable.

“Don’t worry about it. I’ll take a closer look.”

That’s when I got angry and answered him.

That’s when he chuckled and said that was good.

Obviously, I had been tricked.

That took away my fear.

“Let’s go. There might be a fight once we get there. Don’t come out behind me, okay?”

“Yes. I’ll help you if you need it.”

“Hahaha, that’s good to know.”

“…You don’t believe me.”

I prepared myself for this.

I don’t have the strength to fight, but I know how to help.

And…

We go deeper.

After a few minutes of walking, we found a cave, just like Shun had said.

Was it dug by the Drake?

It’s bigger than I thought.

Enough room for us to walk around.

No one there?

Could it be that it wasn’t home?

Just as I was thinking that, a breeze blew through the cave.

The wind was coming from above.

“Up on the roof, Thomas!”

“I know!”

At the sound of Shun’s voice, Thomas looks up.

I follow him and look up.

It was a scary monster with red eyes and a fierce look.

The Drake kicks the ceiling and attacks us.

“Hold on tight, Amelia!”

“A-Ah!”

Thomas holds me in his arms and we duck to avoid the Drake’s attack.

He drops me some distance away and they draw their swords.

“Look at us over there. We’re strong.”

“Yes. Don’t lose.”

“I will.”

“Come on, Thomas! If you want to show off, don’t be late!”

Mr. Shun was the first to jump up.

He ran with incredible speed and took the left side of the Drake.

I have never seen anyone so fast.

He swung his sword and cut the Drake in the side.

Crack!

A sound like metal hitting metal echoed.

“That’s hard! It’s the Drake alright!”

“Get away from him, Shun!”

Thomas stands on the right side of the Drake.

He’s far away, casting his spell.

Ten icicles have formed behind him.

“Pierce him! Ice spear!”

Ten columns of ice shoot out and hit Drake.

The Drake swerves out of the way.

But he is too late, and three of them pierce his body, making him bleed.

The sword misses him, but the magical attack seems to work.

“You don’t like the cold? Then I’ll warm you up! Flair Circle!”

As the Drake howls, Mr. Shun casts a spell himself.

A pillar of flame envelops the Drake, and you can smell the burning in its wounds.

The two take up pursuit.

The sword is reinforced, and the second slash tears through the Drake’s hard skin.

“Amazing…”

This is a mage… No, it’s the battle of the mages.

I am fascinated and moved by the overwhelming power of these two men.

At this point, I was less worried about them.

But it is not over yet.

There was another danger looming.
