Chapter 38 - Arc 2: Monster
His eyes. They weren't the eyes of my Black. They weren't kind and lively. They were cold and scary. This angel wasn't the one I always saw early in the morning with a gentle smile on his face. This angel was just too different. I was frightened of that Black...
"Stop it, Black. " I said loudly but he didn't hear me. It was as if his mind has gone Blank and there was nothing in his heart but unquenchable wrath.
"Are you really a monster?" I realized what I had said when the momentary silence echoed those words back in my ears. I didn't mean to say that, I swear. I just wanted him to stop. He did stop but it was too late, for us both.
Black looked at me and in front of me was a sight I'll never forget. His face turned emotionless and cold and his zealous endeavour to reap life stopped. His black long coat stained in crimson blood fluttered along with the wind. In his hand was a sword that was getting plunged into the heart of a devil beneath him due to the previous momentum.
Black left his sword inside the body of that dying devil and slowly walked towards me. Behind him, the other devils were running here and there but he didn't care about them anymore.
'I'm sorry. I didn't mean it.' That was what I wanted to tell him but words refused to come out of my mouth. There was this lump in my throat. I could hit sit there and swallow nothingness. He bent his knees so that he could reach my ears and gently stroked my hair.
"Do you remember, honey," Black whispered, "I told you I'm a monster." Even though his words didn't stutter, even though he appeared serene, I could feel he was crying inside. "And that's why I don't deserve you. I never did and I never will."
"Be a good girl and go to sleep now," Black said without waiting for my reply, my apology, and I could feel myself getting dizzy. Darkness started to engulf my vision. I so wanted to hold on to my consciousness but it started fading away. My eyelids became heavy all of a sudden and I couldn't keep my eyes open.
The last thing I remembered was that he stood up and turned back. His wing appeared out of his back. I reached out for him, trying to stop him with my powerless hand but he was too far. He flew away from where he came from. He disappeared among the clouds...
