Chapter 34 - My Angel, My Servant

"Wake up. We're there." I heard Black. He asked me in his deep sweet lullaby-like voice and he expected me to wake up. I felt more sleepy instead! He should change his tone to a bit strict side to wake me up.

I tried to open my eyes but it was in vain. I could only see the darkness no matter how hard I tried. It took me a while to realize that I had a blindfold.

"Can I take it off now?" I asked.

"Yeah. We're here." Black replied. I proceeded to undo the blindfold but then in the next moment, he grasped my hand and stopped me. "I forgot something. Keep it a little longer." I loosened my hands and he let go of me.

"Sorry. I've no idea why I keep making mistakes tonight." His words reeked of worry and frustration.

I tried to grasp for his hand in the darkness. And he gave his hand to me. His hand was tense and his skin even had a few drops of sweat. I guessed it was because of driving. "Don't worry. Just do what you can. It'll be just fine."

Though I couldn't see anything, I knew that he was smiling a little, perhaps not his widest smile but this smile was warm enough to reach my heart. Just then my stomach growled asking me why I hadn't fed it dinner yet. Black was right there listening to it. My face reddened. It was so embarrassing. Black let go of my hand. He placed his own hand on my stomach and slightly c.a.r.e.s.sed over my dress.

"I'm sorry tummy of angel Eve. Just wait a little more. I'm sure you won't be disappointed." My heart felt awe. Black then left instantly while closing the door. Perhaps he was shy because of what he said. He was too adorable. I felt like I could do all the embarrassing things in front of him and not feel embarrassed at all.

I opened the door and the cool air breeze welcomed me to their homeland. It was enough to give me little goosebumps. My little dress wasn't fit for the purpose of an outdoor date. I soon closed the door. I wanted to open my blindfold to look at the sea but if I did my Black would feel bad. I resisted my urges.

He had covered my eyes when we were in the parking lot of the restaurant where he originally planned our date. I offered him my help out of concern because he had ordered a lot but he gracefully rejected saying it's a part of the surprise and covered my eyes with the same piece of black cloth that his coat is made of. Black returned empty handed and started driving. I was a bit curious about why he did that but sleepiness had made my mind foggy by then and I didn't ask him about it.

I napped while he drove. Sleeping in that position should have caused strain in my neck or back. But oddly enough, I felt no sign of discomfort there.

Black returned soon enough and gave me his hand in a bid to me get out of the car like a true gentleman. I did not tell him that I was feeling cold. I took his hand but suddenly I remembered I was wearing heels. I could guess from the scent that we were on a beach or near a beach. If there was sand, my heels would just sink in. I proceeded to remove them but he stopped me.

"How can I walk in them?" I enquired.

"I had forgotten about it too. But don't worry I took care of it just now."

I breathed in and decided to trust him. I took a step out of the car. There was still fear in the back of my mind that they'll sink in but strangely they didn't. It sounded like I stepped on some solid marble floor. Just what did he do?

He went behind me and opened my blindfold. My eyes didn't take any time in adjusting to the darkness. I could clearly see the sea, a little farther from what I imagined though. There was a rectangular light brownish marble platform beneath my feet, big enough to let both me and my Black stand on it. On both edges to the side of that platform, little yellow spherical balls floated around near the ground surface, shining brightly to enlighten the way ahead. Some of those light balls were bigger than the rest and they floated higher than others. They appeared like fireflies but they weren't. It was more like golden droplets left in mid-air to shine.

But the problem was that there was only sand ahead of the platform and I couldn't take another step.

My Black placed his hand over my shoulder and pulled me close to him, as if he was telling the universe I belonged to him. Billions of stars looked down upon us from heaven. I could see some of them twinkling in envy. Others must be smiling at this foolish thought of mine. I looked at Black and he looked paler than usual as if some vampire had s.u.c.k.e.d up all of his blood.

"Are you ok?"

"I'm alright. Let's go." He replied.

"Um... How can I step on the sand with heels," I told him my worry. He smiled and gently pushed me forward. My balance was already in bad condition because of wearing heels. His shove made me tumble and I had to step forward. Another similar marble tile appeared out of nowhere before my feet could reach the sand. And even more of those light balls lit up ahead.

"How's my magic?" Black grinned as he stepped beside me.

"It's awesome." I grasped his arm and started walking. At first, I was still hesitant but after a few steps, I became confident.

We walked together, hand in hand. Every step was filled with suspense like those thriller movies. I didn't know where to go and he stayed silent the whole time. Only the little glowing spheres guided me. Even after walking for quite a while, it was still amazing to see the blocks appear beneath my feet out of nowhere. It was similar to how he created his cloth and necklace. I just loved this magic of his. But I was worried someone else will see that. Some people come to the beach for a late night walk. I looked behind. There was no one nearby and the spheres and those platforms were disappearing one by one.

The spheres of light stopped enlightening my way when we reached an isolated place, almost cut off from the rest of the beach because of a huge rock. That rock was like designed by nature in the form of a big, shallow cave-like structure. It looked like a big chunk of rock had been scooped off there. It's sides spreading on the sand enclosing a circular area, to the proximity of the sea. There couldn't be a more perfect place.

He covered my eyes, from behind, with his soft hands. "Again?" I asked him. He didn't answer but he let go of my eyes after a count of five.

He reached out for me like a predator reaching for prey and swept me from the ground. I grasped his coat in an attempt to regain my lost balance, but by that time he had placed me on the chair. I realized it would have been difficult for me to sit because there was sand near the table.

There were a few rose petals on the table emitting out their distinct smell. The seat was too comfortable to sit in. Till now, my first date was as perfect as I once dreamt of. The best part was the warmth I was feeling.

"May I humbly request my Majesty to let go of my coat? I'm afraid your servant may lose himself again if he stays this dangerously close to you." I realized I was still holding on to his coat. I let go of him.

"So you're playing servant now?"

"Yeap," Black said and sat on the other chair.

"Servants don't sit on the same table as their master," I replied playfully.

He looked bewildered and thought hard for a reply. "Well, today, I'm both your servant and your date."

"Then what are you to me at other times."

He thought for a while and with a puzzled expression on his face, he replied, "I don't know... You're supposed to be a good girl and role play with me. You're no fun, Angie!"
