Chapter 19 - The Strongest Angel

I felt a gentle touch on my face as if clouds were touching my skin. Someone's fingers fluttered through my hair and a thumb rubbed my cheek. It was so nice and soothing.

I opened my eyes and saw that the white-haired angel, lying on the other side, was touching my face. Blood rushed inside me along with adrenaline. My heart raced when he gazed upon me with his gorgeous green eyes without blinking. My face started to become red with every passing second.

I placed my hand right over his. As if his trance broke, he withdrew his hand with lightning fast speed. It was his turn to blush. He looked so cute at that moment that my heart eased up. I could barely hold myself from asking him to be my wife.

"I'm sorry." He spoke, turning his face away from me

"Good morning." I couldn't bring myself to scold him for his action.

"Morning." He smiled.

Black got up from the bed and reached out to the tray placed on the table. He passed that to me. He had prepared tea. The aroma was floral, sweet, different from traditional black tea. Its taste had less maltiness than usual tea, with hints of honey. I'm not a big fan of tea. I prefer coffee but the tea he had brewed was too outstanding. What a perfect morning it was. I felt like I was a princess and my significant other was spoiling me.

The tea was still hot. It looked he prepared it a few minutes ago. I looked at him and saw he was drinking his cup of tea too. It was so sweet of him to wait for me.

"Marry me," I spoke up my thoughts a bit loudly. I spoke what I was trying so hard not to. Such thoughts were supposed to stay in my head.

"Huh?"

I was glad he didn't hear me. I took a note in my mind that I should learn to control myself. "Did you say something?"

"It's very good," I replied while looking at the tea. I lied with a straight face...

"I think I heard something else." I almost threw out the tea. It was so embarrassing. I just nodded my head in a no with a smile to deny him. We had the rest of the tea with a small chat. He was answering me mostly. He was bad with fluent talking and continuing the conversation. I guess that was because of his 'friendless' life. But I wasn't going to give up on him. If he'll just answer, I'll keep initiating our talks, I'll keep asking him things till he gets comfortable around me. For he was... my angel.

"So is Lilith a friend of yours?" I finally asked what I've wanted to ask him since yesterday. I had finished my tea at that time.

"Not exactly," he replied. I stared at him silently wanting to know more. He appeared a little embarrassed as he rubbed the back of his head. Who else could've thought that this guy who was so violent yesterday could be that shy too? "Well a few years ago, Lilith  proposed me." My heart almost skipped a beat when I heard it. I was that shocked.

"What did you do?" I asked. A little fear was in my heart thinking I'll find the answer from him as a yes. But knowing how he was being this cozy around me and they both did not look like 'ex', I knew I was worrying for no reason.

"Of course I denied."

"Oh.. Why so?"

"Lilith," Black pondered for a while and then continued, "Lilith just wasn't my type."

"She's bold, sweet, charming and gorgeous. I just met her and yet I can tell so many good things about her. And crimson red hair and silver-white hair look good together." Even though I said that, from inside I was kind of happy he rejected her.

"Hair?" Black spoke and then started laughing. "You're too much."

"Just an honest opinion." I defended myself but he still continued to laugh for a while.

"To answer your question, Lilith asked me to go out with her out of nowhere. I was shocked. And more importantly..." Black momentarily paused and let out his special silly smile.

"Yea?"

He looked right into my eyes and spoke up. "She wasn't you..."

I could feel the heat around my face as it started to turn red. Damn his attack was ruthless. My heart danced along with the increased rhythm of my breath. My mind went blank and I had no idea what to say.

"I think that scored me a ton of points..." He said as he waved his hand over his hair. The flutter in my heart faced a sudden halt. How dare he make fun of me like that!? That idiot. It was funny how childish he could behave.

"Yeah you did but you lost all of them just now."

"Aw," Black said as if he were sad but I knew these devious tricks of him. He couldn't fool me.

"Better luck next time."

"By the way, white and white look better together." Why was he being so flirty first thing in the morning? Not bullets, but he was firing rockets of sweetness at me. It was much more than my little heart could defend against him. I don't feel that I could be easily flattered with words but his every word comes from the bottom of his heart and its just too much for me.

Just then, Lilith screamed from downstairs that they were about to go.

"Let's go and see them off," I said as I got out of bed. I took his empty cup too.

"They can go on their own."

"Manners, Black! Manners!"

"Can't argue with that. But I just don't care." Black sighed and still refused to follow me.

Even though he showed as if he did not care about those two. But he did care, deep inside. Or he wouldn't have helped them. He just wasn't much of a talker. I let him rest in the room. Can't force someone that strong. I went downstairs and put the cups in the sink where I saw two more similar cups. He had prepared tea for them too. And he says he doesn't care about them. Such a funny guy.

I offered to drop them off to nearby bus stand in my car but they denied. I had forgotten that they were angels and they could fly. Lilith wanted to talk to me about something. She asked Lorex to go ahead as we walked slowly on that small road. I wanted to ask her something too.

The weather outside was windy. I didn't expect to walk with her and talk, so I wasn't wearing warmer clothes. The cool breeze gave me chills. I just hoped I wouldn't catch a cold that soon.

"What were you going to say yesterday? I'm the one Black..." I started first.

"I can't tell you."

"Ugh."

"Sorry Eve, If he ever finds about it, he will kill me. I have no d.e.s.i.r.e to die yet... I'm too young."

"I won't tell him and Black won't do that ever." I defended him.

"You know, even though he has not killed any angel yet, he has crippled some of them. That person is the strongest angel. One Wing possesses all the abilities out there. He can perfectly handle every weapon. And if that wasn't enough, his physical abilities are beyond monstrous. No one can stop him from doing what he wants to do."

"He doesn't seem the way." I defended Black. These things that Lilith was telling me seemed a little too far fetched.

"Michael was the strongest angel before. He spent millenniums learning the powerful abilities of all. He was proud of his hard work. Black defeated Michael single-handedly, without any weapon. And then again, he has inherited Eden's Scream... The angels fear that his bloodthirst would take over him and he might become demon one day. The demons fear him for he might annihilate them all."

I was out of words. It all seemed like a lie. How can anyone say such things about the angel with the sweetest smile?

"If you're afraid of him that much, why did you propose him?" I asked. She clearly didn't expect me to know that. Her eyes widened, asking me how I knew that thing. I guessed I overstepped my boundary. But Lilith soon regained her composure.

"The one I fell in love with was kind, sweet, caring, gentle and helpful. That one couldn't even think of harming someone else. He would have never beat up this guy to unconsciousness for making a little mistake," Lilith said while looking at Lorex who was walking without any care in the world.

Was it really love on her side? I wondered. Isn't love all about accepting each other as they are? Helping them choose the right path and believing in each other. Was that not the meaning of love? But I guess everyone feels love differently

"I just wanted to tell you to be careful around Black. He is really dangerous." Lilith said with a smile and started running towards Lorex. "Let's go."

I saw wings pop out of their back. Their wings were white, not as shiny white as Black had in my dreams though. To see them fly was such a beautiful sight to behold. Those two angels soon disappeared within the clouds. Perhaps they wanted to fly high to avoid detection? I so much wanted wings.

The cool breeze brought me back to the real world. The weather had suddenly turned even more chilly. I ran back towards the home as soon as I could. I realized I had walked quite the distance with Lilith.

"Black, do you need anything?" I asked, while still out of breath after I shut the front door. He didn't reply. I went to the kitchen to have some water.

"Black?" I said louder than before when I was in the hallway again.

He wasn't replying to me. My heart flinched for a moment when I thought he was gone again, leaving me behind. I went straight upstairs. Every step I took felt like eternity as my thoughts ran wild. I was relieved a little when I could hear him from outside.

I opened the door and the sight I saw was the sight I could have never imagined.

Black was there, sitting on the floor. He was leaning against the wall as his legs were half bent. His head was between his legs and there was something he was holding in his hand. I couldn't make out what it was.

He was crying. It was unlike any of the cries I had heard before. It wasn't the cry if happiness or surprise. It was filled with sadness and sorrow. So much despair was leaking out of his heart that I could literally feel it. He tried to keep his screams inside his lungs but whispers still escaped in the form of cry. He was there, weeping and sobbing as if he was mourning for something that can't be undone.

As he sat there, he looked so weak and frail as if he was made of glass, as if he would break any moment, as if he would crumble to dust if I touched him.

Wasn't he supposed to be the strongest?
