A Twilight Promise

It's night, both of them returned to their wards together. Before they parted ways, Yuuki asked him to watch the twilight again tomorrow, in which he agreed. He returned to his room to see Dr. Hiro sitting beside his bed, waiting for him. Dr. Hiro stood up, and gave a polite bow, Ryujii bowed as well. The air is silent, until Dr. Hiro breaks it with a bad news.

"Ryujii-kun, you've just met Yuuki-chan right?" Dr. Hiro asked, in which Ryujii nods. "Well then, the condition I mentioned just now, is the same one as Yuuki-chan's and you have at least six months to live." Ryujii is shocked, and he quickly responded with a question. "That means Yuuki is also...?" Dr. Hiro nodded.

Dr. Hiro stood up and gave him a pat on the shoulder. "We all want Yuuki-chan be able to live her life as a real normal girl as well, that is why, no matter what, we will save her life. Not to mention yours as well." Leaving those words behind, he walked out from the room. Ryujii feels a weird sensation deep in his heart. An anguish, of being have to lose someone he truly dears, grows over time.

Yuuki returned to her room, with a nurse, Kaori waiting for her. "Yuuki-chan, it's time to take your medicine." She said. She nodded and took them in, she swallowed them one by one, each with a bitter expression. She then asked a question. "Hey, why is bro... Ah no, Dr. Hiro said he came here from ward 3009?" The nurse is shocked that she knew this. She gave her a response. "Dr. Hiro is also that patient's doctor in charge." She then knew that Ryujii actually is also having the exact condition as her.

The conversation went on a while more, until the medicine's effects kicked in. She became very sleepy. The nurse excused herself and left the ward. She slept soundly due to the medicine's effect that she couldn't have the chance to worry about Ryujii.

It's morning, Ryujii didn't sleep at all. Knowing that both him and her are going to die, he is afraid. The door slides open, it's Kyoko. She entered the room and saw his miserable state. "Mom, you knew that from the start, right?" He broke the ice. Kyoko is speechless, and nodded. Tears flowed from her eyes, from those tears, he at least found a reason to treasure all the time he still have, even it is just a little.

Yuuki woke up from her sleep, feeling dizzy, she flipped her pillow, the medicine she secretly spit from before is all there. A gloomy face, she looked out the window. "A day have passed huh?" She smiled, but she failed. After a few tries, she still cannot do it. Her eyes welled up with tears. She cried silently.

"Ryujii-kun..." She cried. The door slided open. To her surprise, Ryujii appeared in front of her. She hugged him and cried out loud. "Why... Why you too? I hate this..." Is what the "normal" girl said. Ryujii, although flustered, he managed to pull himself together. He grabbed her shoulders and pushed her. The cute surprised expression of Yuuki and the teary eyes of hers looked at him.

"We don't have much time left, but there are certainly people who cherishes us out there. Until then, I think we should live our best... Just so, we will leave this world without regrets." Ryujii said. Yuuki smiled. "Idiot... Ryujii..." She cheered up and the two had a short talk until a nurse entered the room. Before he left, he whispered to her, to wear casual clothes and sneak out together.

A day passed slowly without anything to do, Ryujii is obviously bored. He went up to the rooftop and looked around. He saw a bridge, a bridge that crossed the river, which is a good spot to look at the twilight. Of course, he is planning to head there with Yuuki. As his plans became clear, he heads back to his ward, but he heard someone talking. It's Dr. Hiro. "I understand. I'll pay more attention to Yuuki so that she won't escape again. I promise." He seemed to be answering a phone call from someone important. He then walked up to the rooftop to smoke.

Ryujii sneaked back to his room without being caught. It's already noon. "I wonder what is she doing now?" A heartthrob with these thoughts, he seemed to feel something weird in his chest. It's weird, but he feels happy.

Yuuki is studying despite not attending to school. As long as she is alone, she can concentrate as long as she wants. However, she felt a bit off today. Her heart beats rapidly. The smile on her face is not a fake one, but a smile that appeared after hearing those words this morning. "Stupid Ryujii... I wonder what is he doing now?" She thought. She couldn't concentrate on her studies today.
