A Martial God's Bloodline

Chapter 7:Powerful Illusionary Techniques

A day was all it took for Li Ye to cement, and subsequently raise, his Martial Spirit Level Three state to its peak.

Such speed was nothing short of shocking for most people. If Martial Spirit Levels were the foundation and stepping stone of cultivation, the first three levels were the foundation within that foundation. Progress was rapid.

Li Ye was one such example, as he had already cemented his state and raised it to the peak within a day of his breakthrough. Without mentioning past and future cultivators, it was still unheard of within the entire Wu Prefecture City.

Even Li Kainian—his father and Wu Prefecture City's one-time foremost prodigy—did not progress at such an exaggerated pace.

"Martial Spirit Level Three. Under normal circumstances, I should be at least three to five times stronger than Martial Spirit Level Two. My current condition is at least ten times that of before, maybe even stronger!"

Upon opening his eyes, Li Ye halted his cultivation madness. As the saying went, 'one should not try to run before one can walk'. If not for the imminent clan gathering, he would not have made such a mad rush and coop up inside his room without taking a single step outside.

"I'm at peak Level Three, just a small step away from a breakthrough to the next level. Still, I should calm down first!"

Although rapid enhancement of his state could increase his strength, too much of an increase in a short span of time would have an equally significant effect on his foundation. Smartly, Li Ye stopped himself from continuing.

Thump! In unleashing a punch, he could see the air before him splitting in half and exploding violently.

"Not even a Martial Spirit Level Four cultivator is a match for me right now!"

Present Li Ye was confident that he could fight a peak Level Four cultivator head-on. Of course, the prerequisite was that his opponent had zero knowledge of battle skills.

Following the rapid increase in state, Li Ye noticed that a heightened change in his five senses. As of then, he could see with clarity the tiny little spider webs in the corner of his room. Soft sounds that would usually go unnoticed could be heard incredibly clearly.

In particular, he could even hear Aunt Yun's breathing from the other room.

Her uniform breathing sequence was a sign that she was in deep sleep. A burning fire lit up within him when he thought of the beautiful Aunt Yun sleeping soundly with her guard down.

After all, he transmigrated as an adult man. His thoughts were surely more mature and complex when compared to the original good-for-nothing young master.

"If I was in Aunt Yun's room right now, maybe I can…"

Aunt Yun's allure was Li Ye's biggest torment during that period of time. It was not unreasonable for Li Tianwu to covet Aunt Yun as Li Ye was plagued by the same nagging thought.

"Seems like other aspects of my strength increase when my state goes higher."

People in Cloudveil Continent cultivated constantly to improve their constitution, at least to the point where they could increase their lifespan. Normal people could barely reach a hundred years old, but those Sovereign Level cultivators who set foot into Innatism would live to at least two hundred years old—double that of a normal person!

It also went without saying that some desires were more vigorous than in normal people.

That was one reason plenty of people cultivated zealously. It was a dog-eat-dog world, and one factor was the struggle against heaven to defy natural order and alter one's fate.

The night was dark and quiet but Li Ye did not feel sleepy in the slightest.

"In this kind of night, I'm confident that I'll even be able to defeat a peak Level Four cultivator!"

Of course, such power had its limitations—it had to be at night and the moonlight must be bright. Compared to that, however, his intrigue leaned toward the gift that Li Kainian left behind.

"Lunar Dream Heart Sutra!"

Everything about the Lunar Dream Heart Sutra swirled was revealed before his eyes. It was divided into three parts. The first part used for daily cultivation and had no name but even so, Li Ye was able to sense that it was at a much higher level than the Li clan's treasured Yellow Dusk Exercise.

It should be said that throughout the entire Wu Prefecture City, only the Three Great Clans were known to possess Yellow Rank Advanced techniques.

The second and third parts of the Lunar Dream Heart Sutra made Li Ye thoroughly overjoyed!

"I never expected this to be amplification-type battle skills and illusionary techniques!"

In truth, there were a plethora of battle skills abounding in Cloudveil Continent but amplification-type battle skills were far and few in between. Even if they were available, they would definitely be classified as techniques that had severe side effects. Be that as it may, the second part of the Lunar Dream Heart Sutra was amplification-type battle skills. They were named the Lunar Heart Sutra.

There were three stages to the Lunar Heart Sutra. The first, termed New Moon, was capable of doubling one's strength levels at night upon successful cultivation. There were no side effects to it. The second, Crescent Moon, was also capable of increasing the amplification of one's strength at night, up to three times! It could be said that once that extent was reached, it would be an extremely terrifying ordeal to battle such a person when the sun was down! After all, a sudden threefold increase of strength could send any opponent into despair.

However, the most frightening change came after the successful cultivation of the last stage, named Full Moon! It was a resounding tenfold increase in strength!

"So, my strength increases at night? It looks to be related to my bloodline. Is this a coincidence?"

To clarify, his strength naturally increased when nightfall came, but with the addition of the Lunar Heart Sutra, Li Ye had absolutely no clue as to the added extent of his abilities.

While the Lunar Heart Sutra was undoubtedly marvelous, the third part that came after it—the Dream Heart Sutra—was far more earth-shaking!

"Ah, illusionary techniques! Only those who were born with special pupils can cultivate this!"

Looking at the introduction to the Dream Heart Sutra, Xiao Bailian could not contain himself any longer.

According to the introduction, only those who were born with special pupils could cultivate it. On the other hand, normal people could easily lose their eyesight, and at worst, they might even sink into delirium and die.

"Illusionary techniques, visual techniques? Judging from this, it looks like one has to be born with a very strong spirit to cultivate it."

The so-called illusionary techniques were elucidated rather confusingly, so much so that there were no easy tips or tricks to getting started. For some reason, however, when he ventured into the Dream Heart Sutra, it felt to him like he was treading along a very familiar path. A warm current coursed within his body, akin to a state of ongoing cultivation.

Li Ye was clueless as to the extent of the illusionary technique's strength, but he knew one thing for certain—come the annual clan tournament, he would have in his hand an extra set of skills.

Li Ye began cultivation nonetheless. After all, it was what Li Kainian bequeathed to him. If past achievements were any indication, anything that was left behind by that man would certainly not be straightforward.

Three days passed in the blink of an eye.

Within those three days, Li Ye realized that the doubts he once had over the Lunar Dream Heart Sutra were uncalled for. The nameless technique alone—without mentioning the others—could hasten cultivation when used in tandem with cultivation! Although a great majority of his effort was spent on comprehending the Lunar Heart Sutra and the Dream Heart Sutra, in just a span of three days, he could already feel that he was on the verge of a breakthrough!

That was despite the fact that his previous breakthrough was barely three days ago!

Naturally, the greatest results were gained from the latter two parts of the Heart Sutra.

Boom! A loud explosion was heard in the jungle outside of Wu Prefecture City. Soon after, a huge three-meter long Black Bear was seen to ram into a couple of trees, subsequently felling them. The animal then collapsed onto the ground and twitched twice before dying.

A sixteen-year-old young man was then seen coming out, with his body smothered in dirt. It was his eyes, however, that shone brightly beyond compare. Traces of excitement were contained therein.

Who else would it be if not for Li Ye! Once a closer examination was done on the dead Black Bear lying on the ground, it turned out to be a Grade Four Brown Bear.

The difference between Cloudveil Continent and Earth was in the former's abundance of natural spiritual energy. It was not only the humans that were different; some wild animals were equally different too. A few of those wild animals became much stronger under the nourishment of all the natural spiritual energy. They would eventually unlock wisdom and turn into monstrous beasts.

The Black Bear that lay dead before him was one such example of a monstrous beast, although it was nothing more than a measly Grade Four Brown Bear.

"Monstrous beasts start from Grade One to Grade Nine, corresponding with Levels One to Nine of a human's Martial Spirit. Still, monstrous beasts were a cut above humans if both were at the same grade and level! At my current state, I can easily defeat someone at Martial Spirit Level Five!"

That was the result of those three days. Despite not being able to break through to Level Four within that span of time, his actual strength in battle was already on par with Level Five. A punch was all he needed to kill a Grade Four Brown Bear and in terms of strength, the monstrous beast was equivalent to a peak Level Four human. That was something only a Level Five cultivator could do and even then, he or she could not have done it as effortlessly as Li Ye just did!

"Pity that the Lunar Heart Sutra is only effective at night. I'll test out the Dream Heart Sutra's power then!"

As Li Ye thought of that, he looked over to the spot where he remembered there was a Brown Bear cub. The earlier battle only happened because he disturbed the mother by accident.

Li Ye found that cub soon enough. Cub though it may still be, it was about the size of a grown man. Catching sight of Li Ye, the beast bared its teeth and put on a fierce expression.

"This little guy will be my experiment, then."

As soon as he finished speaking, Li Ye's eyes morphed to resemble a blood-red sea. That was the strength of bloodpupils, an ability that a vampire was born with. It had powerful hypnotic properties. At the same time, the Dream Heart Sutra's first stage—Dreammaker—was utilized immediately. The ferocious little cub calmed down in no time and in its eyes, the cruel human took on the form of its mother that perished in Li Ye's hands. Elated and excited, the beast galloped toward Li Ye without the slightest hint of violence.

"Success!" The scene before Li Ye brought calm to his heart. The result was much better than he expected. A vampire's bloodpupils, in tandem with the Dream Heart Sutra, produced an enigmatic result that was too difficult to put in words!

Author was likely referring to Li Ye, but we translate as is and add this footnote to make this (possible) error known to readers.狗熊 – translated as Black Bear but literally meaning 'dog bear'. 'Dog bear' is apparently an informal term for the (Asian) Black Bear, and at this point we are inclined to the opinion that the bear is an actual bear instead of some mythical creature. See [brown bear] below to get a better explanation of this issue.棕熊 – on the other hand, this is translated as Brown Bear, but more accurately refers to the Eurasian subspecies. Black Bear and Brown Bear are vernacular names for two different species of bears (both are known to be present in China, but the Brown Bear is more restricted in habitat range), and it is believed that the author was using these real-life concepts to convey that the animals are similar, but more enhanced in Cloudveil Continent. They are very different in size and color though, so Li Ye clearly made an initial misidentification of the bear.
