A Martial God's Bloodline

Chapter 2:Awakening the Bloodline Gift

Vampires! The dark kings and elegant noblemen of age-old legend were also the most ruthless hunters of the night!

They had elegant appearances, magnificent personality traits, and graceful styles of conversation. At the same time, they thirsted for fresh blood to moisten their dry throat. They wanted that fresh red liquid to fill the void in their soul and spirit!

A few legends regarding vampires floated around in his mind.

He transmigrated, did he not? How was it possible that he turned into such a revered character, then?

In fact, ever since he woke up, he realized that his body—which, by right, should be frail—did not seem to have a single sign of injury. Instead, it was brimming with blood Qi and strength, as he had somehow expected.

"Hope there aren't any religious trials or anything like that existing in this world, else I can't live my days in peace."

Recalling the vampires in movies that would disintegrate into ash as soon as they came into contact with sunlight, Li Ye began to have some doubts. He then looked out the window. It was midday—a time when sunlight was at its most potent. He had no idea what would happen if he stepped out of the building.

"F*ck it, I can't just hide in here like a turtle forever! Let's go!"

Mustering up his courage, Li Ye opened the door and left it slightly ajar. At that point, a beam of sunlight pierced through the crack and shone into the room.

Looking at that ray of light, Li Ye gnashed his teeth and stretched his hand out.

"Worse comes to worse, I'll lose a hand! Anyway, according to legends, vampires are almost immortal due to their ability to regenerate. Nothing to fear!"

Once he placed his hand before the radiant light, there was nary an occurrence of burning or turning into ashes. He felt the strong heat though, but other than that, there were no issues.

"There's no need to fear sunlight?" The discovery allowed Li Ye to breathe a sigh of relief but instinct still rendered him somewhat averse to sunlight.

Li Ye felt reassured as he discovered sunlight did not harm him.

He then began investigating what effects came along with his bodily changes.

First off, he found a small knife and sliced his own skin. His skin was fairer than most people, it would surely be the subject of envy and coveting by many women. After he inflicted the wound on himself, he watched with his naked eyes as the wound stopped bleeding and became a scar. Within the next few moments, the scar disappeared to reveal his smooth skin. Traces of the scar were all but gone!

"Superfast healing powers? This is interesting."

The discovery did not mean much though, because a powerless individual in Cloudveil Continent would remain an ordinary person.

Next up, Li Ye tested his strength. He could crush a rock with ease and it was not half bad considering that he was a few times stronger than the average person.

"Strength-wise, I'm more or less the same as a Martial Spirit Level One martial cultivator."

Li Ye did not need to worry about finding it hard to get accustomed to the world since he had those memories floating around in his mind. In Cloudveil Continent, Martial Spirit Levels were the foundation for martial cultivators as well as the path to cultivation. Those who awakened their bloodline and activated their bloodsoul would experience a drastic change in themselves as their constitution underwent massive enhancement. Strength, among other things, would increase greatly. For example, a martial cultivator who activated his bloodsoul and entered into the state of Martial Spirit Level One would possess the strength that was three to five times that of a normal person.

As of then, Li Ye's pure strength was roughly the same as a martial cultivator whose Martial Spirit was at Level One.

Martial Spirit Level One was only the beginning, making it the most worthless among martial cultivators. With every increase in level, one's strength would be amplified up to three to five times more than before, albeit variably. The key was in one's natural talent, although the difference between levels was not at all negligible.

Soon after though, Li Ye was pleased to discover something quite amazing. He noticed that his current body was as light as a goose feather. An effortless jump sent him up four or five meters into the air and a casual step forward brought him two or three meters ahead. Simultaneously, his eyesight, hearing, and sense of smell were greatly enhanced, giving him the ability to distinguish every tree and blade of grass within a ten-meter radius.

"Speed-wise, I'm comparable to someone whose Martial Spirit is at Level Three!"

It was not merely a vague notion to say that martial cultivators at Martial Spirit Level Three were ten times stronger compared to their Level One counterparts. Although Li Ye's strength was only that Martial Spirit Level One, his speed was comparable to someone of Martial Spirit Level Three.

The significance of it was that he would have the upper hand when facing a person of Martial Spirit Level One. His opponent would not be able to grasp his shadow, let alone fight him. People on Level Two might even flee if they met him. At the present, Li Ye was capable of battling—with some added effort—against someone of Martial Spirit Level Three.

"Pity that my strength is too weak. That's a disadvantage."

He was not too delighted because he knew the limits of his abilities. Although his constitution gave him the right to socialize with those who were at Martial Spirit Level Three, his yet-to-be-activated bloodsoul meant that he might not necessarily be able to contend with those martial cultivators who had mastery over their bloodsoul.

"What the hell is this bloodsoul actually? Is there some way of activating it?" Although he was unwilling, he knew that his body had tried to activate his bloodsoul from the age of three onward. It was just that the activation had not taken effect for the next ten or so years after that.

Many of the great clans' younger generation started activating their bloodsoul from when they were babies. In general, those that activated it by sixteen-years-old lacked talent, while those who activated it before they were fourteen would be considered reasonably good. Anyone who did so before reaching the age of twelve was a genius, and in nearly a hundred years, only one person in Wu Prefecture City managed to activate it before reaching ten-years-old! That person was none other than Li Kainian—the Li clan's missing patriarch.

On the other hand, Li Ye failed to activate it even though he had reached sixteen-years-old. His reputation for being a useless person was known all throughout Wu Prefecture City.

After all, many young men from those run-of-the-mill clans were able to activate their bloodsoul upon reaching their teens. If Li Ye—who came from a great clan and inherited a powerful bloodline from his ancestors—was unable to activate his bloodsoul, what else could he be regarded as if not trash?

He did not sense any inkling of his bloodsoul, but he was unwilling to just leave things at that.

"I wonder if I can change this aspect now?"

All of a sudden, an utterly absurd thought popped up in his mind.

Essentially, if his present body's shocking change was not present in Cloudveil Continent's original Li Ye and was a gift he innately possessed, then it must have something to with the transmigrating.

"If I really did have the monstrous strength of my True Ancestors , whatever bloodsoul or exceptional martial cultivation are all peanuts! No match at all!"

He remembered that the so-called True Ancestors seen in movies were beings that even the Gods feared.

Nevertheless, he was still puzzled as to what he could be considered exactly.

It was a mind-boggling question, as there was still too much for him to unravel after a seemingly baseless change.

"How good would it be if that hot chick transmigrated too." His mind was reminded of the beautiful girl that turned him into what he was. A niggling feeling told him that the girl was not just an ordinary vampire! She could possibly be a vampire of high echelon!

At that exact moment, a cryptic and difficult-to-understand message gushed out from the depths of his mind, subduing Li Ye's consciousness in a flash. He then fainted.

Without knowing how long he had been unconscious, Li Ye woke up. It was already dark outside.

"Did I really just blackout for half a day? Thank goodness Aunt Yun didn't come in, otherwise, I don't even know how to explain this!"

Latent fear shook him to the core. Li Ye got up from the ground and the memories from before his unconsciousness began flooding back. At the same time, there was plenty of other information that did not exist in his brain before that.

He sorted them out cursorily, after which his face changed into all sorts of expressions. There was joy, but also discombobulation, although the bulk of it was more toward excitement and eagerness.

Surprisingly, the information was related to cultivation! A complete method of survival was also present.

He was previously terrified that coming into contact with sunlight would cause him disintegrating into ashes and dying a very agonizing death, but he was then relieved in that aspect. Through the new set of information in his mind, he realized that many legends usually stemmed from man's exaggeration over that which they did not understand.

Li Ye remained perplexed after much pondering, so he shook his head and left these doubts aside for the time being. He then continued reading.

About fifteen minutes later, Li Ye could roughly understand his current situation.

He was not a vampire, or more accurately, vampires were simply the superstition of man. In simple terms, his body had the addition of a very special bloodline!

The Ichor race!

Thankfully, the information in his recesses were still quite detailed.

Of course, the so-named Ichor race had similarities with those vampires seen in Western movies. Examples would be low activation rates of bloodlines and fear of sunlight or silver weapons, amongst other things.

Once the bloodline was awakened and progressively increased, all those weaknesses would fade away once the bloodline increases in power.

There was no doubt that he had awakened a portion of the Ichor race's bloodline. Simply put, he had just awakened it, other than an increase in constitution, it was practically useless.

"An interesting bloodline. So, from my understanding, it's similar to the system of cultivation in Cloudveil Continent. But how do I enhance my bloodline?"

Why was the Li clan's Third Young Master chased out of the clan in the first place? Was it not because his bloodline was too weak and he had no gift at all?

Concurrently, he noticed that having the bloodline made him feel somewhat at ease, at least.

"When I look at it, it's not as disgusting as eating human flesh. But, devouring a person's bloodline?"

Deep down, he was apprehensive. The description of 'devouring' was not particularly pleasing to the ear.

In addition, there were a few other abilities—aside from the immense increase in constitution—that were manifested in him as a result of the awakening.

One of them was the greater strength he would have at night as compared to during the daytime! The disparity in strength was related to the force of his bloodline.

Full moons were when the amplification of strength was at its most terrifying. Li Ye still had no idea what effect it would bring about, but he was already anticipating it eagerly.

Secondly, his spirit far exceeded that of a normal person, thought that kind of heightening left Li Ye unable to comprehend it completely.

"Strong spirit? I'm not a wizard, right?" He remembered how, in the past life, he remained single up until he was thirty-year-old, but did not turn into a thirty-year-old wizard as often teased on the web.

As he thought of that, Li Ye decided to look for an opportunity to test the extent of his spirit.

真祖 – translated to 'True Ancestors', taking inspiration from Type Moon although we have yet to see any concrete similarities (other than name) between the Type Moon True Ancestors and Li Ye's True Ancestors.血族 – literally 'blood race'. Here I have chosen to use the word ichor, which is Greek for blood (more specifically blood of the gods), and turned it into a race, which I call, the Ichor race. Those who are from that race will be termed Ichorians.三十岁大魔法师 – translated literally as 'thirty-year-old wizard'. The anecdote actually comes from a saying that if one could preserve one's innocence (one of the methods is possibly through abstaining from relationships) until one reaches the age of thirty, then one would be able to use magic spells. It originated from a 2006 Japanese manga titled "萌系魔法师". Attempts to find an English version of the manga proved unsuccessful.
